Sarah headed off to the hospital first thing this morning to induce baby Freebird to come out. Since the romance novel covers E.D’Trix sent us didn’t work, I’m not sure I have much faith in anything that medical science has to offer, but she has to give it a shot, eh?
She has my number and I told her to give me a call when she has a moment to give us the details, and I gotta tell you: It’s peedance city in this here joint. But realistically, I probably won’t hear from her until tomorrow, because much as I want to think I’m the center of the universe, Sarah’s family has more important things to deal with right now other than her blog partner who lives across the country.
Anyway, everybody: think good things about Sarah and her Hubby and baby Freebird, and as soon as I know, you guys will know.

Here are some random bits of mother advice.
1. Start learning your dinosaur facts NOW--chances are you’ll need them.
2. oh, and when changing diapers? remember to have that extra to throw over the fountain. When the hose hits cold air--wham.
3. learn to live with fart jokes. If you express any distaste, they’ll just do them louder.
You nailed it, Kate R. Let me add just one more thing: She’s likely to say “What were you thinking?!” in hysterical tones, a lot, most often on the way to the doctor’s office.
I have two of those XY offspring, all grown up, and I wouldn’t trade them for all the pink hair bows and Barbies in the world. In fact, I rather miss being asked to walk like a dinosaur. Those were fun times!
I talked to Sarah last night. It was the very first time we’d heard each other’s voices, because so far, we’ve just e-mailed and IM’d each other. She sounded pretty tired but very happy and just as sassy as ever. I squeaked and squealed and sounded like a huge, honking dork, but that’s nothing new.
Anyway, she’ll be in the hospital until Thursday. She says she mostly plans to sit on her ass and make the nurses bring her apple juice as often as she wants it.
One of the first things I asked was about the brown babies that often precede the human baby during labor. She told me it was like squeezing out the last bits of toothpaste out of a tube.
I don’t think fart joke tolerance is going to be a problem with Sarah....

Candy--I am not Doug, and my standard disclaimer in my other groups is IANAR (I am not a rabbi [just more learned than the average bear]) but the best response is “Mazal Tov!”, meaning literally, “Good Stars!” or in a broader context “Congratulations/May good things happen for you.” Also, we didn’t tell anyone the name of our boy until after eight days had passed and he’d entered into the covenant, a practice that involves 1. sharp knives 2. nervous parents 3. lots of food. So he may be little Freebird for a while longer yet.
You also wish for parents that they rear their child to a live of Torah, Chuppah u’Ma-asim Tovim, or “A life of learning and living according to the faith, marriage, and good deeds.”
A lot to put on a little guy, but he’ll grow into it.
