I don’t think there is anything more eye-opening to a new author than joining a critique group. Constructive criticisms can point out huge flaws and gaps in your own writing.
However, this advice, as well as the RWA…
My friends Colin and Jess are very dear to me--Jess, in particular, saw me through an incredibly difficult bit of my life. They’re brilliant and that rarest of things: a matched set. They’re not the same people, but their energies, core beliefs and approaches in life mesh together eerily well. When I hang out with them (which is not nearly as often as I’d like, as they live hundreds of miles away from me), I’m torn between the urge to hug them non-stop and punching them for being too goddamn cute for their own good.
So yesterday, Colin sent in this picture to Cute Overload.
And Jess sent this in reply.
I have the awesomest, dorkiest friends EVER. And I figured that a community with a fine appreciation for romance, happy endings, wedding proposals and general geekery would appreciate this.
Congrats, Jess and Colin. I love you guys, and I can’t wait to see you on Thanksgiving.
that really is the best proposal ever.
I saw that! I was so excited for them and didn’t even know who they were!
Awww.....
Awwwwwww again!
That’s so cute! And Candy, Jess’s funny smile reminds me of YOUR funny smile! I can see why you’re friends!
I can see why you’re friends!
It’s kind of terrifying when Jess and I get together in the same space. We’re both tiny, loud, geeky, utterly ridiculous and fond of colorful clothing.
Every time I think about that proposal, I smile hugely and do a little wiggle of glee. It’s SO PERFECT for the two of them.
Awww, that’s adorable.
I saw that this morning too. How wonderfully, sickeningly sweet (in totally a good way)!
That is just so incredibly romantic it has sucked me even deeper into the quagmire of envy where Ann’s Fabio refrigerator magnets pushed me.
Aaaaawwwwww!
Stuff like that usually leaves me, like, meh, but this one is very, very cute.
Geeks rreeewwwlll!
That is ridiculously adorable. Except that I want to steal their cat, who’s even more adorable.
Ok, this is really weird.
Point 1: I’ve been lurking on this website for a long, long time. I even share links to this site’s blog entries with my friends, so they periodically drop by for funny videos or horrid covers, while I come for the hysterical snark and stimulating writing on the stereotypes around romance and other “women’s fiction”.
Point 2: *My* friends Colin & Jess just got engaged via CuteOverload. Colin & my husband were friends in college, and Colin was a housemate for years. Jess moved lived with us for a couple of months too, and now she is also a great friend of ours.
Point 3: I log on to Smart Bitches and Candy is talking about Colin & Jess!
My world has collided and I am feeling the vapors come on. Someone burn some feathers under my nose, or break out some smelling salts.
Anyway, C&J are exactly as Candy describes and more! They are totally cute and dorktastic and I screamed in joy for hours (ok, minutes) when I saw their pics on cuteoverload. :)
Oh God, that’s almost too sweet for words and nearly made me tear up. What an awesome proposal!
Marriage by Lolcat… *sniff*
They better keep an out on their cat because I think it’s going to go missing soon! It’s (he / she??) so cute!!
“Im in ur house, stealin ur woman”
Congrats to Colin & Jess :)
Ei-Nyung: Holy crap, that is excellent! Isn’t it a funny little Internet? I’ve had moments like that, too, with many people, but especially with Jess, who’s some sort of eerie Supernode of Social Connections.
And my heart grew three sizes today.
Seriously? This story makes me want to crank up my Hoo-ha and send the Slut Odometer sailing into the triple digits.
For those wondering about the cat: Her name is Tesla Grumblepuss. Her sister is Mongoose(berry) Zeitgest. I like to think the Tesla bit was inspired by my suggestion that they name the pair Tesla and Edison (among many, many other things; my other favorite suggestions were Zim and Gir, Schrödinger and Planck, and Amphibrach and Anapest).
I saw Colin’s half last night, and when I saw Jess’s answer this morning, I squeed for all I was worth. That was, if nothing else, the CUTEST proposal ever. Congrats to the happy couple!
Candy: Jess == Supernode is a dead-on assessment.
Those cat are so cute. I have got to get around to meeting them soon.
And Awwwwwww! once more. This is just sooo sweet! And they’ve got cats, too! So of course they must be wonderful people. :)
Just chiming in with yet another AWWWW. Congrats/Best wishes/happy vibes to all.
One more time;
AWWWWWWWW!
Blessings on the couple! How sweet was that???!!!
( truth 53- Oh hell yeah!)
I gotta let it out:
Awwwww!!!
Adorable! Cats and romance and geeky sites!!! I love it. Congrats to everyone, especially the kitteh.
Awwwwwe! This is awesome! And the comments were too! Congrats to your friends.
is that a message from the cat?
I’d marry my cat, if he asked.Dude, that cat is INTENSE.
It’s...hypnotizing.
*head tilt*
Posted by: I’ll marry the cat…If Colin had only thought to get a Swedish Ewok to sing a little song with this picture, he’d have it in the bag!
ok
where the hell is Jess?!
This proposal is being totally wasted on us.
But I would def marry the kitty, or we could live together, either way.
Congratulations Colin and Jess!!
What an adorable proposal!!
So sweet and funny.
I actually awwwed when I saw Jess’s answer. I KNEW she’d say yes--Candy said happy ending--but it still made me smile and awww.
Like a Romance Novel, it’s all in the delivery. (Plus cat, in this case.)
Oh man! I am a CO regular and I saw that the other day and thought it was adorable. The Internet is a small, small world. :)
Wonderfully romantic, incredibly sweet.
That’s really funny. I just saw that on Cute Overload today and thought it was adorable. And this is my first time visiting your blog (Which I am loving BTW) and voila. Small world, even on the wide web!
~Erin
