Friday Videos: An Engineer’s Guide to Cats

The only thing sexier than a funny skinny nerd…are two funny skinny nerds who love cats.

Watch for the Corporal Cuddling and the noises the cats make. I think I ruptured something with my giggling.

I first saw this a week or so ago, and I laughed so hard I could not breathe and had tears running down my face.  No one who I’ve passed it on to has disliked it.  It’s hilarious!

  2. Meriam says:

My (Zoe-sized, but he’s on a diet) cat makes the exact same sound when I corporal cuddle it.

Very cute. I like the deadpan engineer.

  3. Flo says:

I saw this on cuteoverload and nearly peed myself laughing.  It only gets better with a second watching!

  4. rebyj says:

    LOL!
Now we know what nerds do when they are not playing D&D;!

My honey’s D&D;group ALL have cats, I can’t wait to fwd this video to torment and tease them!

  5. azteclady says:

    0_0

    I’ve fallen in love.

    Again!

Think I could introduce Oscar to my Opera singing Kitty?

  6. Madeleine says:

That was amazing! Thanks so much for linking it.

  7. Sarabeth says:

I so needed the laughs that caused. That made this hospital bed seem not so terrible. Thanks.

  8. EGS says:

Where can I find a guy like one of these??

  9. Ocy says:

Brilliant!  I can’t stop laughing.  My only issue is that I can never show this to the husband, or my own cat will be forced to yodel.

  10. Madd says:

Those have to be the most patient cats I’ve ever seen. I grew up with two cats, Chacho was so big that standing he could touch my lower back with his paw and Cathy was an attack cat, picture whirling claws of death. Chacho seemed to think that being so sizable, he didn’t need no stinkin’ claws. He used to paw slap us children to keep us in line. Picture little kids running around crying with a big red paw mark across the cheek, but that’s what you get when you mess with the tail. I don’t see either of these cats putting up with corporal cuddling.

  11. Kwana says:

This was too funny. I can’t belive I got sucked into watching the whole thing. I loved the I’m not paying any attension to you game and corporal cuddling. So mean.

  12. Marianne McA says:

I got distracted by the house. They need to discover the secret of colour.

  13. Ann says:

    I heard tell.

    But had not seen.

    I think I peed.

Thank you for a Friday Laugh!

  14. Nicole says:

Oh my goodness, the tears of laughter that are streaming down my face.  Must show DH when he comes home.

  15. Julianna says:

When my husband saw this on Cute Overload (and laughed so hard I had to come see) I told him he was lucky I was taken.

  16. Oh man, I have a couch (and a love seat) upholstered in that exact same fabric.  (We picked it 12 years ago before the first kidlet was born, because it was the kind of fabric that could take a ton of spilled food, general dirt, and kid effluvia and come out looking no different.)

I wonder what it says about me (and the engineer husband) that we still have the couch (and the love seat)…

  17. Krysia says:

Awwww! LMAO That was wonderful. I promptly passed it on to the cat lovers I know, find myself wondering how *my* cats would like to star in their own vid (they wouldn’t), and now would love to adopt a Maine Coon.

  18. Becky says:

If I tried any of that with my cat he’d kill me in my sleep.

    problem62- yes, we’d have a big problem!

  19. R. says:

Oh, that’s great!!  I guess I don’t feel odd for having two cats in a house with two people.  The corporal cuddling—been doing it for years, and never knew it had a name.  8)

rather21 – well, yeah.  any younger is jail-bait.

  20. I liked the “collaborative low-energy cardboard performance art” and “marathon lounging.”

  21. AgTigress says:

Absolutely delightful.  Just what I needed to cheer me up after a hard week.

  22. Cat Marsters says:

Fabulous.  I now feel a little more justified in my goal of becoming Crazy Cat Lady.

(Yes, I know.  It should be something to avoid.  Deal.)

  23. Anne Douglas says:

    meow meow meow…shake your bootay!

    HAHAHAHA!!

I could do a psychology of cats one with my two – considering I’m certain one of mine is at least schitzo, possibly with a side of multiple personality.

As for the other, she’s in my bad books this week, because on Tuesday rather than her playing under my desk with one of the many lizards she brings in to mutilate, she brought in a snake. RIGHT BY MY FEET. OMG!

  24. Liz says:

My sister sent this to me a few weeks ago and I laughed so hard at Corporal Cuddling and cat yodeling that I had to pause it.

  25. You gotta love engineers!  But you don’t want to marry one!

  26. Sara Thacker says:

OMG, that is both awful and funny.

  27. Michele says:

Engineer nerds rule! I love this video but those cats are amazingly patient. My cat would have been all over them. Of course my cat didn’t get the memo that he’s supposed to be cool and aloof. He’s dumb and playful all the time.

  28. Shannon says:

OMG!!!!  I am crying. Crying!  That was one of the funniest things I have seen in…ever.  I went to the University of Illinois, aka. Engineering Central. Those are just the kind of guys I was friends with on campus. That video was just so perfect.

    Cat Yodeling!

And that was the best use of Mozart EVER.

  29. Chrissy says:

… and people think I’m weird because my dog has a blog …

  30. fiveandfour says:

Heeeyyyyy – he stole my Corporal Cuddling technique!  I’ve been using it with my current cat and must say it works like a charm to deter abherrant behavior (for up to 5 minutes at a time – an obviously fearsome disciplining tool).

  31. Wryhag says:

Just damned delightful!  I’m a total sucker for animal antics.  I would have been more impressed, however, if those two nerds had whipped out and manipulated slide rules.  Must be a lost art, let me tell ya.  And I’m all for reviving lost arts.

“basis 17” – Yes, slide rules are the basis for engineering, mastered at about the time young people turn 17.

  32. --E says:

My cat is now planning to hunt these guys down and claw them to death, since of course I had to immediately go yodel him!

    That was freakin’ hilarious.

  33. EJ McKenna says:

    Absolutely gorgeous!
As a kid, we had four cats and two dogs (a great Dane and a German Shepherd).
We were in a very ‘cold’ part of Australia – Ballarat. I usually slept with at least two cats each night. They are very good hot water bottles.
I don’t have any cats now, but the neighbour’s cat loves to come over the fence and give me a cuddle. Yay, all cuddles, no food or vet bills.

“cold 79”. It was a cold one that year. Has the word verification been reading my diary?

  34. Ciara says:

That was really great! I needed the laugh. My baby, Shadow, passed away on Thursday after 17 wonderful love-filled years. I miss him so much and am absolutely broken hearted. He brought so much love and joy to my life.

    heavy44 – yeah, enough said.

  35. Kaite says:

Condolences, Ciara, for Shadow. They’re such insidious little creatures, sneaking in and stealing our hearts. It leaves such a gap when they go!

I have a friend who “snuggle rapes” his cats—very like the corporal snuggling, only he attacks innocent cats. Poor kitties. Going about their business, only to be grabbed from behind and snuggled.

My cats wouldn’t put up with anything like what those three cats deal with, either. I’d be chewed up if I made my Elvis dance like that.  Collaborative low energy cardboard performance art, indeed.

  36. Kelly says:

Aah yes, I have a bondage kitty, myself The tighter you squeeze him, the louder he purrs. (The other one does, indeed, yodel. And it is as funny as you hope.)

  37. karmelrio says:

My cat would have have taken the corporal cuddler downTOWN.  We think he was an anaconda in a previous life.

  38. Thank you for sharing this.  I had a veterinary student to supper the other night (she’s also owned by cats) and said I had to see this.

  39. Nifty says:

You gotta love engineers!  But you don’t want to marry one!

Pam, I admit that as I was watching, I was somewhat reminded of my engineer ex-husband.  Except, of course, for the fact that these guys were 1) funny 2) likable 3) talkative and 4) creative.  But my engineer ex-husband DID own a cat—two of them, actually—and I have to say that the home decor in the video looked depressingly familiar.

  40. Catherine J. says:

Oh, brilliant! I love this! Now I have to go show all my friends . . .

And that Zoey is a pretty kitty. I have a Maine Coon at home, a big orange guy named Pippin, and I miss him so badly; watching that video made me feel a bit better. Thanks, Smart Bitches.
