Friday Videos Love Frenchman’s Creek

This is five minutes of hilarious win. If you turn on the “described video for the visually impaired” feature on PBS movies, and add commentary, it’s just epic.

Stay away from impressively large masts, is all I’m saying.

[Thanks to Denise Shaw for the link.]

And, while we’re checking out alternate text within audio, did you know that Hitler is grammatically a disaster? It’s true. Brings new meaning to the term “Grammar Nazi.”

[Thanks to Paul for the link.]

  1. Psst! Donna, the word is “abducting”! “Kidnapping” is so twentieth century. Or something.

  2. LOL! Love both of these, but really, I could watch the Pyrate one over and over. Full of WIN!

  3. Moley willows says:

oh god more … more … oh god more….
    I laughed until I cried. More please…

  4. Michele says:

What a great way to start off a Friday. Thank you for the brillance and idiocy at the same time.

  5. Tea says:

Pretty sure the neighbors are wondering at the WHOOPING laughter. Pirates… snarling.

  6. Nickle says:

There woulda been bonus points had we seen white foam splashing at the top of the big mast.  Or at least some timbers shivered.  Can only surmise the “snarling” meant that this was some kind of crossover historical romance pirate story with a Lora Leigh Breed epic.  Perhaps, Breeds: the Pyrate Years.

  7. Debra Hyde says:

Waves crash against the ship’s prow and burst in a shower of white foam?

Guess that’s what they used before there were trains going through tunnels.

  8. Carin says:

I liked the ending… the shipping plowing through black velvet.  What a way to start the day!

  9. OMG!  BEST PYRATE VIDEO EVER!!!  Tears are rolling down my face from laughter.

Thank you so much for sharing this!

  10. Liz says:

am i the only one who wanted the pirate to put his shirt back on?  hilarious commentary though.

  11. rebyj says:

As a woman who lives with a history channel addict who has Hitler tv on all the freaking time, the Hitler video was HILARIOUS.
The salty Pyrate video was a good way to start the day. YUMMY!

  12. allison says:

Woe and alas – the Hitler vid doesn’t come up for me, says it’s no longer available.

But omg, the pirate one. I was biting my lip to keep from laughing at work. So very very funny.

  13. Brittany says:

Oh wow. I’ve seen that first movie (though not with the visually impaired dubbing). It’s called Frenchman’s Creek. It’s probably the only Masterpiece Theatre movie I’ve ever watched and enjoyed a lot. Just looked it up on Amazon and, lo and behold, it’s on dvd! http://www.amazon.com/Masterpiece-Fitzgerald-Vansittart-Constantine-Popplewell/dp/B000FGFUW2/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1236359710&sr=8-1

  14. Lori says:

Like Brittany I saw the pirate movie when it was on PBS and remember it as being fun.  Of course I watched it without the painful narration.

  15. Claudia says:

I blame DA for making me associate a snarling heroine with that Knight Moves book.

  16. Lovecow2000 says:

The fall of grammar had me in stitches. Thank you SB Sarah for putting it up there.

  17. SonomaLass says:

Grammar Nazis FTW!!!  Damn, that is funny and well done.

  18. ocelott says:

NOTHING is going to top this today.  I might as well just go back to bed.

  19. Becs says:

I am still laughing over the first video!  I wish it wasn’t telling me that the second one is no longer available

  20. ev says:

Neither link is working for me!Waaaahhhhhh!!!!!

  21. ML KRAMER says:

Thank you, thank you. Home from hospital stay today – I knew reading SBTB would be the best medicine. Bone pipe? Snarling? – too many to count. You know the narrator was having a great time reading those lines!

  22. Krista says:

Who puts a tattoo in their freakin armpit??

Glorious. Best 10 minutes of my week.

  23. Melissandre says:

    Best.  Videos.  Ever.

  24. Michelle W says:

I think that is the only time I laughed at anything concerning Hitler and I laughed HARD!  Thanks for making my day! “-)

  25. Sally says:

Hope you feel better soon, ML Kramer!

That Pyrate video was absolutely hilarious.  Makes me want to try the descriptions on other stuff…

  26. Lorelie says:

The grammar Nazis were funny but it’s the pyrate video FTW.  Srsly, best Friday vid EVAR!

  27. KristieJ says:

ROTFL!!!  And I knew that movie!!!  I knew that movie!!!! even though I’ve never seen it.  It’s Frenchman’s Creek (well – you all know that) BUT – it’s based on a book by Daphne Du Maurier and it was one of the first ‘romances’ I ever read!!  I adored it – though it didn’t have the required kind of HEA we’ve learned to expect.

  28. Trix says:

Hahh, those are great. The grammar Nazis remind me of those music videos with English “translations”, aka “buffalaxing”:

    – Benny Lava

    – Fart in My Duck

(some language not safe for work!)

  29. ijinx says:

The Grammar Nazi one is great, except that, if you actually speak German, you have to concentrate to ignore the audio.
And the Pyrate, for a moment, had a really cute smile, and great teeth… what kind of pyrate is that?

  30. Steph says:

OMG the pyrate was such a hoot!  Thanks for posting, it was a much needed laugh!!  Love this website!!

  31. Saam says:

WIN! That’s made my weekend! I’m going to search for more sight impaired commentaries now…

  32. ev says:

Could someone please repost the links for the videos? For some reason (which means my hubby was playing with the system again) they didn’t show up.

    Thanks!!

  33. Robinjn says:

Oh, Frenchman’s Creek! I *loved* that series. The hero is Alain Delon’s son (can’t remember his name at the moment). And without the (totally and hysterically funny) voice over, it’s incredibly HAWT. Their affair is full of tension and attraction and wit.

Seriously, if ya’ll want to see a *great* romance on film, get this movie. Um, not the voiceover version though.

  34. Delilah says:

I’m at work, with tears running down my face. Absolute WIN.

Hilarious..I’m glad I waited until Monday to watch it..
