I clearly must find these books. The plot also sounds kind of like Anne Maxwell’s Dancer series--Fire Dancer, Dancer’s Luck, and one other I can’t remember.
Word is hit91--I would hit Kirtn, the male lead.
From HaBO:
We’ve been talking a lot about sexism and women, feminism and romance in the past two weeks, so this week, we have Joss Whedon’s speech from his award from Equality Now in 2006.
Of course, someone posted it in the comments to an earlier entry, so in case you’ve already seen the Whedon Whonderment, here’s a bonus video.
They prized wit and resolve in the women they were with above all things.... Though I’ve watched this video countless times, I hadn’t realized until this moment what a wonderful description this is, of any romance hero I would hope to write.
Thanks for posting it, dear bitches, and happy holidays (as Bill O’Reilly hates us to say).
He’s got a man cold!
Oh, that phrase is going to come in handy this winter. My brother claimed he was “dying” from a cold earlier this season. Baby.
She should have shoved that bell up his ass. rofl
Yet another reason to love Joss Whedon.
Next time I’m sick *I* want to have a man cold. Where’s that dang bell....
Merry and Happy, all!
I bet Joss Whedon doesn’t get man colds.
“Because you’re still asking me that question.”
If anybody ever asks me a question of that type, I will just quote Joss.
Thanks for the reminder. I hadn’t watched that video in some time, and it’s good to see it again.
Sadly, I’m the man in the second video.
Joss Whedon is my god
it’s so refreshing to actually see some one admit that sexism is still a problem. it seems that wherever i look at the moment all the women are just cut out characters, the virgin, the bitch, the mother-in-law and so on. i saw this video when it first came out but it’s always nice to see it shown again.
plus he really is very funny.
thanks smart bitches
Well, men are also cut-out characters: The tough guy, the lovable drunk, the wimp, the child-like husband.
Just checking out the comments and wasn’t going to post another until I saw the submit word: respect.
Man, wouldn’t a bit more of that be nice for our species.
Oh, I loooooved the man-cold vid. That’s classic. I may have to steal it for my blog. *heheheh*
That Whedon video gives me happy-sniffles. :)
Verification word: strong16
Soo, why did you write these sixteen strong woman characters?
Having seen this video, I am now going to begin planning my wedding with Joss Whedon.
Not if I get there first, Anna (although we have a strong female character type to dispose of in his wife).
Just FYI, since this speech was made, Joss has pulled out of the Wonder Woman project. I think it was because with the other writers/directors/producers etc being hired he foresaw it becoming more of a parody movie, which he didn’t want to do.
Joss is my god. He just is. Who else--male or female--gets it like he does, and who else could put it so well? He’s right: that shouldn’t have to be a question. We should be taking other writers to task for creating dull, weak women.
Men and colds-- my husband once informed me that I was a cruel horrible wife for asking him to go to the store with me while he was the “death of sick.” He had a head cold.
