I think the answer is . . . Liberty Stone, Time Was by Nora Roberts
I think its called Time and Again, but the heroine’s name is Liberty Stone. And its by Nora roberts.

what I really hate is when I know ive read the bloody book, but every other detail has pissed off to one of the black holes in my brain.

I grabbed this off my shelf today, posted the ad, then went to the grocery store. I bought my copy years and years ago - it might have even been a gift. But hello - in the grocery store book aisle? A brand new re-release of the same two novels I have in a late-90’s double set release. Totally coincidence.
But “I <3 Romance” is the first one in with the correct guess! Congrats - coronation coming soon!
