When you announced your mission to read as many category romances as possible in January it made me think of a really good category romance I read about ten years ago, but I can’t remember what it is called or who wrote it and it is driving me nuts, plus I would really like to get my hands on a copy.
Here is what I remember:
The heroine was an older woman (forties) and she worked at a radio station. She had just recently moved into town to take the job. The hero was a younger man, (I’m guessing thirties) who always refused to tell her exactly how old he really was and he was her boss I think.
She also had a stalker who tried to kill her when she and the hero got together. Her stalker also worked at the radio station. I keep thinking the name of the book was the Falcon and the Fox but I have had no luck with internet searches. The book was definitely a category romance, most likely a Loveswept from the mid-nineties when Loveswept was doing those floral borders on their books.
Now, I’m currently reading a category that features a radio disk jockey hero - but he’s a really giddy vampire who is so happy to be undead I think he drinks only from people on Zoloft. So that isn’t it. Can anyone in the wise Oracle of the Bitchery identify this book?
And note to those who guessed previous HaBOs in one - I’m working on your titles. I didn’t forget. *cue evil laughter*
It sounds a lot like Nora Roberts’ “Night Shift”, though the hero is the detective, not her boss.
I have no idea what the HaBO book is, but now I want to know about the cheerful vampire book.

This actually sounds like a Nora Roberts book...and old Intimate Momments, Night Shift. Celia and Boyd. I don’t remember her being older than him, but everything else sounds familiar. He’s not her boss, but a cop send to guard her when she starts getting threats…
You might check it out...it is from early 90’s.
Okay, I know this isn’t very helpful, but I’m pretty sure it’s a Nora Roberts also. I know I haven’t read it, but I’ve read the description of a Nora Robert’s book that sounded like that. Plus, it just seems like something she would write about. She always has stalkers and interesting work situations.
And I’m raising my hand to agree with the Nora Roberts… and yet, I seem to dimly remember another book in which she is older than him and there’s some sort of professional relationship between them that she uses as an excuse to try and keep him at arms length.

The Villa, also from Nora Roberts features a heroine who is about nine years older than the hero. He’s the new CFO (I think) of her mother’s business. Also there is someone trying to kill her daughter, who is another heroine. Do I make sense? My brain is asleep since yesterday…
Also sounds like “Hello, Darkness” by Sandra Brown, except I don’t remember the age difference issue...she’s a late night DJ who takes callers and the bad guy is “Valentino”, who I think murdered other people and is now after her and keeps calling her during her show.
It also reminds me of the Jenifer Crusie title Charlie All Night. They were both DJ’s in that one....
Oooh! I finally know one! It’s definitely Jennifer Crusie’s Charlie All Night… which was a Harlequin Temptation. But I believe they reprinted it as a single title a year or two ago with a lot of her other HQ books.
This also made me think of Nora Robert’s “Night Shift.” But was Celia in her 40’s and was she older than Boyd? I can’t remember.

you might be thinking about Love Counts by Karen Percy. It’s about a woman in her early forties who falls in love with her 10 year younger accounting firm partner. Great read and on my keeper shelf!
The HaBO book doesn’t ring a bell for me, unfortunately.
In ‘Charlie all Night’, she produces his show, but neither of them is the ‘boss’. I also don’t think she is particularly older than him.
I agree that sounds a lot like Nora Roberts’ Night Shift, but there are some significant differences.
The heroine is in her thirties; the hero is a cop about the same age. Her boss is a younger guy, but he’s not the love interest. The stalker is someone who works at the station, though.

Night Shift and Night Shadow were my favorite of Nora’s categories and I didn’t even think of Night Shift when I read the description.

Cilla was in her late twenties. Not in her forties. She was a radio personality--a DJ--and he was a cop. Scary phone calls to the station, stalker-type behavior. Danger!!
But no, the book under inquiry isn’t my Night Shift.

Um, there’s also The Rocky Road to Romance by Janet Evanovich. It was a Loveswept that was re-released a couple of years ago. It features a Radio station where the heroine works and her Boss owns. I don’t remember her being older than him, though.

There was no stalker in Charlie All Night. It was (surprise!) a comedy. Definitely worth a read, but not the HaBO.
