I’d really like my dh not to worry about the state of our economy.  It is really a present for both of us.  For him so he’d get peace of mind and for me so I wouldn’t have to keep pointing out things are half full.  :)

I’d like a cover as beautiful as Sherril’s, someday when I grow up.

For no more bad news for the next 8 days.  Asking for good news may be pushing it.

I want my dh’s work conditions to improve, or his back to improve magically without surgery. Actually, I want both so that he can’t fuck up his new back at work. :)

I would like to find a new house for myself & my family.  We’ve been living with m parents since we moved to Florida and, well…that needs to stop soon!

I’d really like a kindle, but Santa can’t afford it at these prices.  So I settle for my laptop.  for now.  :)

I would like a well-behaved dog.  I asked for one last year, but the mutt remains as slaveringly insane as ever.  I keep telling her the shelters are full of beautifully behaved dogs who’ve been cast aside because of the recession, and would just love to come and live here, and we could swap her at any moment, and she listens very nicely and then goes back to chewing my arm.

And if I can’t have that, I’d love a huge big bag of money.  Preferably in one of the good currencies.

I would like my health and my husband’s to improve and the economy to get better.

I’d really like for people to start taking more vacations. You all bring your families to Orlando, and my roommate can get hours at work again, allowing her to start to afford to pay her rent and buy food again. If she could just get a good 30 hours a week, that would be greeeeeeeat. It would be win/win for us all! I don’t have to worry about her part of the bills anymore, and can start buying books again. It’s been so long that the first shopping trip I can make to the bookstore will probably singlehandedly revive the publishing and bookselling industries. XD (erm, okay, not really, but I like to pretend I have that much purchasing power.)

I’d really like to find a dentist that’s not on vacation over Christmas here is the Back Woods of Virginia. The husband has been horizontal with a toothache, and I feel as helpless as can be! I’ve been packing his tooth alternately with ground cloves and good Scotch, and orajel.
Please, Santa! Won’t you bring me the Power of Dental Knowledge to ease his pain? Or just a bottle of oxycodone!

I would love the rest of this vacation to go better than the first half did. Is it too much to ask that the van and scooters you paid big bucks to rent, work right and you don’t miss hours, if not days at parks because of it? Or that hubby’s family wasn’t such a pain in the arse that you want to drop kick them all off the Tower of Terror????

Hope everyone else is having a great holiday, no matter what it is you are celebrating!!

I’d really love my son to become again the happy child he had once been.  His laughter is so very, very rare these days and it breaks my heart.

I want to be able to see all my friends that I haven’t seen since August.  We are now spread all over from hometown OSU and Otterbein to Gaucher to Brown to Kent State.  I hope we will be able to spend new year’s eve together.

I would love to get my work ethic back so I can finish my dissertation this year and start planning my wedding.

(Also, Cat Marsters, we have a badly-behaved dog who also listens very nicely to reprimands and goes back to doing whatever it was she was doing before. But she manages to be sweet and adorable while also behaving badly. Yours isn’t a basset hound, by chance, is it? Everyone keeps telling us they’re stubborn.)

I’d like to find time to to read a couple of books from my TBR pile.

I want a week without work where I can just sit and relax and read to my heart’s content.

I would like for the cream and white Maine Coon boy who was born 2 weeks ago to survive the pneumonia and the flat chest he developed 1 week ago.

He’s a fighter and we need more examples of beings just not giving up in the world!

A massage every single day for a month.  My back is killing me lately!

And for no one to have to be sent to the middle east for military purposes anymore.

I’d like five hours more in every day, so I have time for a long, hot bath every evening with a good book and a glass of wine, before collapsing into bed and actually getting enough sleep.

The one thing I’d really love for Christmas this year is for people to stop spazzing on me at work and screaming because we don’t have anything snowboot/fashionboot/hiker-related left after last week’s snowstorm.  *sigh*  This would make a PERFECT holiday!  (And I’ll even add that to my birthday wish list.  Can’t believe that’s tomorrow already.  Eep.)

I would love it if everyone in my and my husband’s families could get his/her act together, along with the assurance that our own kids will turn out fine.  Oh, and to not be afraid of big honking bridges anymore.

Hope everyone gets what they want!

My wish isn’t really for this holiday, but for the upcoming year:  I hope the new administration coming into play in January helps everyone not only in this country, but beyond our borders to find the hope that’s been stripped away from them.  Hopefully, it inspires everyone to make a change not only in themselves, but for those around them because we are all affected by this current state of affairs.  Hopefully, we can mend our relations with the world and show everyone that together, “Yes, we can.”

I would like the ability and discipline to finish the first draft of my romance novel by the end of January! ARGH!

I want some snow. This is not some sort of crazy white Christmas thing: I grew up in Colorado where snowfall is a regular occurrence. Since then, I’ve lived in a succession of places with minimal snowfall and it’s gone from a novelty to something making me a bit crazy.

I want to be able to eat chocolate every day. Without any caloric impact. Ever.

I would love to feel better.  I have a really bad cold and it settled into my lungs. Not a good thing if you’re asthmatic. I would also love to be able to see my new nephew.  He was born this October and since my sister lives so far away, I haven’t been able to hold him yet.

Oh! I would also like for my cat not to be so ugly anymore.  I love her to pieces, but I think as the days pass she grows more hideous. Poor thing is never going to get a date.

I really wish for a christmas dinner completely without fighting. Not so lucky last year, but I’ve heard rumors that my grandfather is on his best behaviour this year, so we might just manage this time around.

I want world peace and to finish the rough draft of my mystery novel by the New Year.

Dogs that don’t steal the pot holders off the kitchen counter.
Massages would be nice too- and a bag of money, for sure.  A few extra hours would be nice as well- or just the ability to function on less then eight hours sleep.

But really- all I want is a client that will jump start my freelance design business so i no longer have to commute an hour and some change to where the jobs are.

Barring any of that, my ongoing wish is for a previously unknown relative to die and leave me large amounts of money, or large amounts of stuff that I could sell for large amounts of money.

Oh yeah- and books.  Lots and lots of books.

All I want for Christmas is to not have a sore throat any longer! Ugh - and of course it’s getting worse just in time for caroling… grr.

I want to go home.

While I know I should be asking for world peace and happiness (and hey I do want these things) on a purely selfish level, I would love for someone to present me with an air ticket (or even better a magic instant transporter because the trip is l-o-n-g) so I can travel back to Australia and spend Christmas with my family. While I love living in Scotland, missing family holidays is par for the course for expats.

There are lots of things I enjoy about this holiday season, but the biggest one is having time off work to spend with my 2 year old!!  I have lots of vacation time and have more than 2 weeks off!! It is wonderful…now if I could just stop checking into work!! :)  I also can’t wait to see my daughter’s face when she opens her gifts!! : )

I want chocolate to be healthy.  How about the calorie count and nutritional value of spinach, while retaining all of it’s original taste, texture, and medicinal qualities?  I’ll take that.  If I can’t have that then I want the ability to crochet and read at the same time.

I’d love to give Thursday (who posted above) our snow. I live in Seattle where we get one day of snow and limited problems. This has been 5 days, I haven’t had any child care, I don’t get paid for missing work (even though my child care has been closed) and I have cabin fever (you wanna be stuck in an apartment during a snowstorm with a 7 year old?)

Okay, maybe I want a less whiny holiday :-)

I love the holiday because it means I didn’t have to go to work. Not a noble goal but that’s what I really like.

I’d really love it if a mysterious someone would pay off all my school loans. But, barring that, I’d say I’d love for my brother to find a job that makes him happy since he’s been so miserable this year.

For Christmas I would love to be able to make it home to my parents without spending a night in the airport and THEN (since I’m a greedy one), I’d like my parents to be understanding when I explain to them that really, since I live in Phoenix and they live in Chicago, THEY should be travelling to see ME next year.

*Le sigh* I don’t think Santa has magical “make parents rational” dust, but a girl can dream.

I’m going literal with my request - I asked for a tough girl kit this Christmas - flask, knife, lighter, and a big ol’ bottle of brandy (though I’d settle for some Gosling’s) - but most of it is actually for sailing and the lighter is for starting the wood stove every morning.

For my skin to clear up and be pain-free. Drat you, PCOS!

For the holidays?  I’d like for everyone in the world to get at least one good meal and a chance to spend a few hours relaxing with the people they love.

Teleportation - so I can actually hug and bring real chocolate to all my far-flung family and friends rather than writing {{{hugs}}} and sending “virtual chocolate” when they need them. And then I could travel to all the places I want to see, too!

I would love for our economy to pull out of the downward spiral.

I want to be selfish and wish for my power to come back before Christmas.  I know that the line crews are working hard, but this is really hard to be out of my house.

And then I wish that everyone else in the area gets their power back next.

I would like some time to sit down and read a book.

I would like everyone is my family to be happy and healthy in 2009. I would like to find the perfect part-time job - but still have time to read all these books!

I would like a Kindle for Christmas.  Or at least a private bathroom in the dorms!

I’d like to get a firm offer to buy for my condo, then I can take care of some other wishes.

After looking at those covers, I think I’d like to be seduced by a spy.

I’d like my upcoming interfaith, intercultural, interracial wedding to be a blessing and not a cause of conflict within my extended family and for those I love to love me and my fiance for who we are and not for who they would like us to be.  Also, I’d like the nameless faceless bureaucrats at immigration to be kind and expeditious with my fiance’s change of status paperwork so that he will be able to participate as a full member of U.S. society (ie. be allowed to work and have freedom of movement) sooner rather than later.

On a larger scale, I hope for everyone to be able to hang on through these tough economic times and to help each other out.  We’re stronger together than alone.

More than anything else, I’d like to not have to spend the holidays with my in-laws.

I’d like to be able to fix my van. Some sort of vacuum leak caused by gaskets on the manifold, which basically means $600. Oh and an extra $270 for the wheel bearing that’s gone to hell on the right front. And I was laid off in August.

I only *thought* I was going to get to go home to see my family this Christmas. Was supposed to be going today.

More universally, my wish is for all of us to be a little less angry and a little more tolerant.

What I’d really like for Christmas is my husband to come home.

He’s military, on deployment, and the last I heard from him they’re about to head into a “no income tax zone.” This means he’s going to be in an active combat area.

So yeah, him home safe and sound would be great.

What I really want is to get all my grading done before it’s actually Christmas so I can take a few hours off to relax.  And I would like my husband to get all his grading done too so he can relax with me. 

Also I really want a Kitchenaid Pro stand mixer to make cheesecake with (and lots of other things), but that’s definitely not happening this year after Sunday’s emergency vet visit with one of the cats (he’s better now, but was one sick kitty).

I’d really love for a nice vacation for my parents, they deserve and since I’m a poor student, I can’t buy one for them [yet].  Plus, I’d like a pair of Converse and an iPod with a huge amount of storage.  Oh and someone to kiss under the mistletoe (or kiss at midnight next week, I’m flexible), but that’s probably pushing it.

I would like a surprise for Christmas. Something I didn’t pick out or buy myself. A little thing that somebody thought that I might like and really enjoy.

I’d really like four days of relatively uninterrupted reading time over Christmas. (But knowing my family, it won’t quite be that. There will be meals. Walks. Sauna. Visiting. Guests. Board games. Conversations. Et cetera.) I’d also settle for that beautiful, ample, honking Leaning Tower of Books I’m lusting after. (I would MAKE uninterrupted reading time.) Or, seven numbers correct on Saturday’s lotto drawing. (Heck, I could BUY uninterrupted reading time!)

I’d like a nice, quiet Christmas - to channel The Muppet Family Christmas.

I already got what I wanted for Christmas, and I wasn’t even looking for it - someone special to spend the holidays (and the not-holidays) with. Haven’t had that in a looong time.

But books work too. :)

My wish is for my father.  That he remain in good spirits and know his family loves and supports him.  He was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer and has decided not to seek medical intervention.

I’d really like to find a chiropractor who does prenatal adjustments. My lower back begs for it—alas that I’ll probably have to suffer through the new year before hunting one up!

What I’d really like for Christmas is to win this load of books, then the time off to read every one of them.

On a big wish having two members currently suffering and countless past expiring from I’d like a cure for cancer. 
On the small end of things I’d like a few pairs of chopsticks for my kitchen. For all that I drop food like a madwoman with a fork it seems that I end clean as a whistle when I use chopsticks to eat anything.

I wish you all to be safe, peace and happiness for the holidays and the new year to follow.

I want my teaching contract to be renewed for the 2009-2010 school year.  That would be one major sigh of relief in all this economic worry right now.

I’d love for my current housing situation to be resolved easily. I’m about to move but haven’t found a suitable place in my new city yet. I have two largish dogs so I’d love to find the ideal place for us all.

My Christmas wish is to have an awesome dinner. It’s my first X-mas preparing the meal, and I hope everything goes well!

This holiday season I’d like to fall ass-backwards into a good job, with benefits, that pays enough for me to pay off my debt, keeps me interested enough to want to go in every day, doesn’t have an asshat for a boss or among my co-workers, gives me room to grow and leaves me time to write.
Or, win the lottery.

I want my 14 year old cat to get along with our new 1 year old whippersnapper kitty.

What I really want is for Mr. Stomach Virus to GO AWAY. Die, damn you, die.

Well this year, we bought our first home, and we are closing on… December 30 !!! So, I would LOVE a nice closing without bad surprises (bad surprises = more $$$) !!! Aside from that, I wish for our family a nice non-stress X-mas (we are going in my hubby family, which means that we have to drive 5 hours to go there. We are leaving tomorrow morning), which means we will be in NYC :D
I also wish for .... books, lots of books since I now have tons of space for them !!!!

To get my voice back. So far after turning 50, I’ve experienced, for the first time, strep and now total laryngitis. Not so much fun and, ow. On second thought, I’d keep the laryngitis forever if my nephew would get his head out of his ass and, let’s see, stay out of prison. Again.

I could really use some rest. I’ve been working 60 hour weeks and trying to shop and pack for my flight home in the meantime! When does that mythical vacation part happen?!

I would like for all the freshmen that I teach to wake up and get a clue.  I teach high school!  I shouldn’t have to answer questions like, “Who is Dick Cheney?” and “Why isn’t there a country called Greece?”  They should come to me already knowing that!

I’d like world peace, a stronger economy and Veuve Cliquot.  (Not necessarily in that order…)

More time to read, more time to write, less house to clean and less day-job to do!

Since I’m 21 weeks pregnant with baby 2 and I already know he’s a boy, I’d really like him to be a healthy, happy guy just like his big brother.

I would really like….to skip graduate school.  Please?  It’s a scary place where I have to write papers and do research.  Don’t make me go there!

What would I like? A white Christmas. Not to be sick - to sleep through the night despite the damn huffy dog… but most? A job. That would be great.

Yarn.  Lots and lots of luscious yarn.  My two passions/hobbies are reading and yarn so when I stopped buying books and yarn over a year ago to put money into a retirement fund (FAIL), I could keep up with the book addiction via the library.  But there’s no place that loans yarn.  So please, I would like some new, beautiful, lofty, luscious yarn.

... though a big ol bag of romance novels would go a LONG way to soothing the yarn pains ;)

ooh, definitely a weekend babysitter for some time alone with the husband for once in a million years.

Aside from the ever-elusive Peace on Earth, all I really want for Christmas is a job & the good night’s sleep that would come from being certain of being able to pay all my bills. 

A big pile of books to enjoy would be excellent too.

I was going to say that I wanted a full time job that would let me buy a house.  (Or at least win a lottery jackpot big enough that I could buy that house and live in it without having to worry that my sixteen-hour/week job doesn’t pay enough to live on- which is unlikely when one doesn’t play the lottery.)  But then I read this:

I would like to know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that this pregnancy will continue to be free of complications and that the baby will be born healthy. I’d also settle for a definitive answer on the gender so I can fend off the bearers of pink.

I would like to find a sublet and a new job so I can live on my own.

I would like all of my ordered Christmas gifts to arrive by tomorrow. Otherwise, some of my family members are getting pictures of their gifts instead of the actual gift. :)

I want a job with normal hours (one where I don’t have to be there at 2 AM) OR one that pays enough for me to move out of my parent’s house.

I would like a personal bartender to arrive on my doorstep tomorrow, with a strong martini-shaking arm, an intimate knowledge of all things flaming and hot-buttered, and enough skills and booze to keep me and my Sweetie relatively numb till 2009, ‘cause it’s been that kind of year.

I want a handyman with a pickup truck to come work on my house for a day or twenty . My honey is disabled and there’s only so much duct tape and cussing will fix!  And holy cow the amount of broken furniture and crapola that needs to be hauled away.

I would love to go on a vacation to somewhere with a warm beach and nothing I’d have to clean.

I’m in a very similar situation to Rachel R. who posted above—no fertility treatments yet, but also no baby after almost a year of trying. For Christmas, I’d love for us both to get what we’ve been hoping and praying for. I’d also love for my family (who don’t know what my husband and I have been going through) to stop asking when we’re going to have kids. It breaks my heart a little more every time.

Hah, it seems several people want my well-behaved dog.  but when I get her, you can’t have her!  Apparently she’s half Border Collie, half Labrador, but I think we were lied to: she’s actually half perpetual-motion machine and half waste-disposal unit.

Actually, even more than behaving nicely, I’d like her to get on with my cats, and stop trying to pin them down and lick them all over.  I’d like my older cat to get on with my younger cats.  I’d like my younger cats to stop losing their damn collars because they’re black so they need something reflective, and ID tags aren’t cheap.  And I’d quite like my previous kitten to not have been run over last year.

But if I can’t have any of that, I’d like Richard Armitage instead.

I would like it if I could get my mom’s house so clean it sparkles while I’m home.  Baring that, I’d take getting one room up to ‘able to be shown to non-family’ which is still pretty much wishful thinking.  For now, I’m going to go wash two small dogs and a cat, and figure out how to wash the big dog while running the dishwasher and as many loads of laundry as I can find.  Ah, Christmas.

What I’d really like is to be with my sweetie this xmas.  *sigh*  I live in PDX, and he lives in Walla Walla, and I was supposed to travel up there with some friends on Saturday to spend the holidays with him and his family, but the blizzard has kinda destroyed that plan.

ESP so I can figure out what’s going through my older child’s brain these days.  And she’s only a tween.  Oh, my, it’s going to be an interesting next few years.  I’ll need those books for “la la la I can’t hear you whining and yelling at me” time.

Currently, I’m loving the snow. It doesn’t snow often here, but we’ve had a week of steady snowfall and it’s turned my already pretty city into a scene from a snowglobe.

Mostly, though, I love having the family all together and eating turkey. It’s nice when your divorced parents are friends and not bitter enemies.

I would like a new bookcase.

One thing I’d like, other than world peace and a pony?

To be “accidently” snowed in at the lovely hotel my husband and I have booked.  “Oh noes!  We will have to spend a third night in the jacuzzi suite, I can’t go back to work, the whole city is shut down!  Such a shame!  More hot water, plz!”

I want my mom to finally move into her new house because she’s going insane with the renovations and her cats hate being stuck indoors while they’re living in town and are getting sick and anxious.

I’d just like a couple of days off with no work, no visitors, and no chores to do so that I can immerse myself in my book world. But I’m not going to get it for Christmas. Maybe for New Years…

I’d like a new sheep shears. WTF, you say? They’re like $300+ and mine works but gets insanely hot really fast (motor’s on the way out)...which is ok when I’m shearing and its 10 below zero but when it’s like 50 degrees I have to wear mittens and I look like a dork (more so than usual).

I want my friend, Lucia, to be healthy.  She was treated for uterine cancer earlier this year.  Her checkup last week was not good news. Stay strong my friend.

I want people to stop coming into my retail computer store and yelling at me because “the guy who engineered this fucking keyboard should be fucking fired cause I have fat fingers and they won’t fit on the fucking keys cause your fucking engineers keep making the fucking keys smaller and smaller and you should fucking do something about it fuckidy fuck fuck fucking fat fingers!”

If they could just realize that I, as a lowly concierge clerk, have no contact with said keyboard engineers, and that a letter of complaint to corporate would mean more from him than me.  Or if they would listen when I tell them the keys are no smaller than any other keyboard, and every keyboard takes getting used to.  Or if they stop venting their weight issues on a slightly chubby 23-year-old girl who works 12 hour days and deals with jerks like him all bleeding day.

...I guess that could fall under the “Peace on Earth” category.  I’ll settle for “Peace in Retail.”

And I want a pony.

I want peace and good will to all. And if I win this, I’m so buying lottery tickets!

New wineglasses and a bottle or two of really nice red wine to go with them. I could combine the wine with the cheese in the fridge, a good book and the cosy sofa.

I’d like to shift the earth a little farther away from the sun so we could have 36 hour days…24 hours to work and play and 12 hours to sleep…and play

I really just want all of my college tuition paid for. Life is expensive.

What do I want this holiday season?  For my kids to reach Manilla safely (they leave on Christmas Day for a 3-week trip to the Philippines).

I’d like a job, preferably one that makes me feel useful and that I was excited to go to every day. And a job that I would be proud to own to (like a spy or a photographer or a riding instructor) instead of always feeling inferior around all these dang nuclear engineers and underwater explosive experts.

And I wish and hope that everyone finds a least a moment of peace during the holidays. All to often it seems like people are so stressed they don’t take the time to appreciate anything.

I’ll be selfish and say a new iPod. Though a job for my father and possibly new jobs for my entire family would be awesome, too. But I’ll try not to be picky!

I would like a windfall of money for Christmas to ease all my financial problems away, and so that I would never have to work ever again but just read and write.

I would really like a bag of Chex Mix made by my neighbor.

She made the BEST chex mix year round.  I would get a bag on my birthday.  For Christmas.  For graduation.  Any special event and she’d walk down the chex mix and hang it on our door knob, knock and scoot on out.  There was always a little note attached.

When my husband and I were stationed overseas and he was in Iraq for Christmas and I was solo she made SURE we each got our own giant bag of chex mix.  I swear I cried and stuffed my face.

I’ve tried making it the same way but I can’t.  Anne Wester has the best chex mix… IN THE WORLD.  And I want some!

I’d love it if my mother could find someone to happily get old with…!

I would love one of the Kindles. I think I would have WAAAY too much fun with it,though. What I really need is a job after I graduate in May. So, if Santa could get on that, it’d be nice.

I want to learn to speak Chinese.

And this book bag.

I want a guarantee that my job is safe.

My final chapter writer’s block to dissolve so I can write ‘The End’, and one single, perfect day of my children getting along without reminders not to needle each other

I’d like some hot chocolate (figured I’d go with something that’s actually attainable!). I’m mostly a tea drinker but the freezing cold is making me want cocoa.

On a serious note… The end to global hunger. 

The lighter side… Since I am a huge Garth Brooks fan I have to want him to return to touring or at least put out something new I can listen to to tide me over. A girl can dream…right?

I have a kindle already but had my mom not got that for me that is what I would have wanted:)

Holy Honkin’ Giveaway!

Well, my family is whole and hearty, I already have a pony (seriously, don’t be jealous, he’s ancient and a bloody handful—but I do love him to death), so I guess I’d like my own HEA.

I’ve been doing a lot of self-directed prep work, so I think I’m close to ready. Bring it on, Santa!

And my “wishful thinking” wish is for everyone who posted here, especially about the terrors of dealing with the real world right now, a safe, happy holiday and a new year of hope.

The one thing I want is for my nephew, his girlfriend and their son to come to see us on the day. I worry about him.

I want my cousin and my brother-in-law to come home safely from Iraq and Afghanistan.

a definitive grasp of my purpose in life, so i can get started making it happen instead of spending every non-otherwise-distracted moment navel-gazing. oh, and an agreement between me and my endocrinologist on how much levothyroxine is REALLY enough. and for steve and sharon miller to miraculously finish writing “saltation” tonight so i can finish reading their delightful work in progress. what can i say, i’m greedy.  :D

I would really, really love it if my drawing teacher would change my (completely unfairly given) C+.

I’d love a laptop for me, and for my parents to go on vacation next year.

I would really like more book shelves to hold my TBR pile which is about halfway to the moon by now…and maybe also some will power so that I can stop buying books until I make a significant dent in aforementioned TBR pile ;)

I would like to have a quiet and stress-free Christmas, and to not be overwhelmed with work when I come back.  I would also like dance lessons to be cheaper.  I would like my Cousin to make it home from Afgahnistan safely (I barely know him, but I still worry).

Mostly, though, I have what I wished for - a happy house, a job I love (even if it drives me nuts sometimes), a husband that’s fantastic, cats that are adorable, and the possibility of having kids soon if I want them.  I’m very lucky.

This holiday season, I hope dh and I get pregnant!

I wish for a peaceful and happy day on Christmas Day, the first I have spent in a different country from the rest of my family.

I would love to get that acceptance letter from Stanford for Christmas…especially because California sounds SO nice when you’re buried under three feet of snow.

One thing I would really like this holiday season is to stop being afraid of what will happen to me after I graduate from college this next semester. Actually, no longer being afraid of the future in general would be very nice.

I want for me and my kids not to be sick for Christmas. I’ve got a fever, sore throat, cough, aching muscles and I’m tired as all hell. Unfortunately all three of my kids have the same thing going, including the baby.

That, on top of the fact that my family has chosen not to get together at my grandmother’s house for Christmas Eve, has got me feeling pretty down this holiday season.

I want to be truely, and utterly suprised by my Christmas gifts. I always figure them out, and then the fun is gone.

Oh, and world peace.

All I want for Christmas is for my son to be safe.

Hm. I’d like the holiday to stretch out in time so I can fully appreciate all the things I have and don’t always take time to be grateful for ... pretty much a normal day, only slower, if that makes sense?!

(I think I’m asking for a time machine. Again.)

I’d really like my student loans to magically disappear.  Is there a contest for that?

I’d like to go home for Christmas and see all my family and friends—I’m so lonely out here!  But I do give thanks that I have people I love and who love me, even if I can’t spend time with them!  I hope everyone here gets their wishes granted!!

I’d like to know which of my relatives who’ve been saying that maybe they’ll do the turkey this year is actually making the turkey.  Christmas is the day after tomorrow.  Does anybody even have a turkey?  Where am I supposed to be, and at what time?  Do I need to bring anything?  Why, oh why, can’t anybody I’m related to make a freaking decision and then COMMUNICATE it?

I’d really like a car made in this century… that would be nice…

I would like a better credit score so I could finally buy a house. :-/

I just want to get through with this season!  I love a lot about Christmas, but usually wind up so sad.  I miss all the people I’ve lost that used to be part of Christmas, my folks are all gone, my aunts & uncles all gone, my beloved brother is gone much too young.  More and more Christmas is about loss.  If I had a Christmas wish is would be for it not to be too sad a season for me this year.

I want my husband HOME! Three months of playing single mother is long enough.

I’d love to be able to get home to Virginia to see my grandparents and to introduce them to their great-grandsons. I haven’t seen them in years, and it would mean the world to me to see my hero, my grandfather, one last time.

I would like to graduate. 
I’m in my third year of my PhD program in Molecular Genetics.  My role is to do cardiovascular research under the guidance of my principle investigator (the dude with the money).  My fellow students and I calculated our pay per hour (about 7 dollars - less than minimum wage!) for the number of hours we typically work (usually between 50-80).  Graduation is generally around 5 years though some less than enterprising people have pushed the average to about 6.5.

Barring graduation (which is extremely unlikely to happen).  I’d like to not have to go to the lab on Christmas day!

To quote Jorge Cham (PhD comics) “It seemed better than getting a real job.”

I would love my 6 1/2 month old son to sleep through the night…mmm a full night’s sleep, bliss!

Or if we’re going for material items, a PDA/MP3 player that’s like the iTouch in nifty form factor and wireless access and that’ll last for at least five years and is easy to change the battery on.  (Or an iPhone that runs on wireless and prepaid cell plans.)

Besides health for my family, I would like to be able to find a decent, new job in the new year.

I would like my workmail to magically process itself.

Alternately, I would like the rest of my work to stop so I can catch up on processing my mail.

I foresee neither event happening.

I would love to know if we’re actually just a swirl in somebody’s marble and while I’m waiting to find that out perhaps all these lovely people will get there wishes too because even lives inside of marbles must matter..

I’d like the ability to stop time (so I could sleep late and get stuff done), make my dog stop barking and sealing and make my seventh graders less nasty. And I’d like a ban on icy sidewalks. I’d also love a book deal.

What I want is a magic bookshelf that stores all my books (filed by category), and can show any four shelves at one time.  And includes a search for author or title.  And has a big red button (“porn? what porn?”) for when Company is coming over and so it should hide any potentially embarrassing items.

...if we’re talking fantasy rather than reality, I’d also like a body that works and doesn’t freaking /hurt all the time/.  But a magic bookshelf is awesomer.

I’d like an extra three hours in the middle of tomorrow, so I can finish the socks I’m knitting in time to give them away on Christmas Eve, and not on New Year’s Eve when I’ll next see their recipient.

After the children all around the world join hands and sing, and after world peace is achieved, I’d like to finish Manuscripts 1 and 3.

i would like for my boyfriend to move and find a job when i now live.  i am tired of having a sort-a long distance relationship.

For enough time to get the novel written, the craft projects forward at least a little and for Marsha to get her wish.

I would like to know what I want to do with my life:) Annndd… I would definitely like that bag of books!

All I want for Christmas is my kids to go to bed ontime for the rest of their lives, lol. It seems that as soon as Christmas break hits they decide never to go to sleep before midnight.

All I’m asking for is just one teeny little lottery win - just enough so that I never have to work again, and have time to read (and the money to buy) all the books I don’t have time to read now.  Sigh.

I got laid off two weeks ago, so I’d like a job for the holidays, please.

I would like to wake up Christmas morning one hundred and ten pounds lighter, red hair down to my butt and a 6’4, 220 lbs roughly attractive man with buns of steel sleeping next to me.

Oh ya, and no more snow.PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

What would be really nice to get, more time. To do all sorts of wonderful things. Though I suppose that goes hand and hand with energy.

My dream Christmas gift would be a year’s supply of fancy loose leaf tea and honey to go with it.  And of course lots and lots of great books to read while curled up on my couch drinking my tea!

I want my husband to come home from Afghanistan, and when he does, I want my 3 year-old to recognize him.

Seriously, with all the reading I do, multiple books at any given time, plus all the traveling I do, I’d love the Amazon Kindle! I could carry a whole library with me wherever I go and download new ones as the whim strikes me. 

But truthfully, for my favorite authors, nothing beats the smell of the freshly inked paper, the glue of the binding, and the feel of a book in my hands.  Printed books have no need to fear from my desire for a Kindle!

I want everyone on this list to get what they’re wishing for.  I also want to have an even more amazing year next year (which since I just finished grad school and got an awesome job, will be tough to top).  And while I’m dreaming, I want a pony.

Hmm… I already got what I really wanted this year (laptop and a new ipod). I guess I would just really like to have a drama free Christmas day with my family. Which can be a bit of a rarity these days.

I’d really like to win this tote.  It would make me squee with joy.

I kinda want to know what my headaches are.  The doctors aren’t sure, and neither am I but I keep getting stabbing headaches, sometimes in my eye, but I don’t think they’re cluster headaches…

But they’re kind of annoying to say the least…

I’d like for my dad to find a job.  I’d also like to listen to the news on NPR without becoming extremely depressed.  And i’d love it if my apartment would magically clean itself.

Sarah, if it’s a very brief stabbing pain lasting only a few seconds each time but very intense while it’s happening, it’s an icepick headache. Google on the name for some ideas on treatment.

(I get icepick headache occasionally, and it’s *extremely* annoying.)

The only thing I really wanted this season was to stop being sick, after having been sick for the entire month of December, and Santa has finally granted my wish this morning :-)

Growing up in So. Cal, I always wanted a white Christmas, never got one.  I moved to Portland, OR expecting a white Christmas every year, never got one, and last year when it snowed on Christmas Day I was in So. Cal.  Well, this year we have had snow for over a week, it continues to snow and pile up higher and higher, and NOW?  I just want to have dry Christmas.  I’m no longer wishing for a white Christmas.

One thing I’d really like this year?

A job to go to, that’d be nice.

For the DH not to be called up by the Reserves.  But I already know he has to go out of country for a month this summer.

An updated kitchen would be lovely, but I’ll settle for a boatload of books…

I just moved from Virginia to Seattle and am home for just a few days around Christmas, so I would like extra days of vacation to spend more time with my friends and family!

I would love to be able to see my family. I am studying abroad this year and couldn’t afford to go home-and I didn’t feel right to intrude on any of my flatmate’s Christmases with their families. So I have my small tree on the kitchen table and will be opening my gifts tomorrow by myself. For the first time ever.

I know it was my own decision, and I have been away from home for the holidays before, and in much different circumstances. I would still love to see them.
