That sounds like a Julie Garwood book, Guardian Angel.  Part of a three-book series which includes The Gift and Castles.  Very very good book.

I’ve got vague memories of a duet of Catherine Coulter books dealing with pirates, earls and kidnapped mothers.  Devil’s Daughter and Devil’s Embrace?  Maybe?  I’ll do some more research and get back to you.

This is definitely Guardian Angel by Julie Garwood - one of my favorite books of all times. Jade is the heroine - part of a group of pirates that steal from the rich and give to the poor. The pirate goes by the name of Pagan and always leaves a rose at the scene of thefts. Black Harry is the pirate who raised Jade. He is hysterical as the “blackhearted”, blind pirate. He attempts to steal Caine’s stepmother (The Marquess of Cainewood is the hero) to force Caine and his stepmother to be closer. The book is extremely funny - and Jade is one of my favorite romance heroines of all time!! Garwood’s The Lion’s Lady, The Gift and Castles are all connected to Guardian Angel.

*smacks head* You’re right, Jennifer, I totally forgot Lion’s Lady was part of that set.  Another brilliant book.  I have to say, while I enjoy Garwood’s newest contemporary books, I mourn the loss of her historical romances.

Back in the day we used to say “all knowledge is contained in fandom”.  I’m tempted to add a corollary that says “all romance novel knowledge is contained in the bitchery.”

I did some research on amazon and it looks like the book he described!!!! Thank you very much and wow. I’m very much impressed by the bitchery, you are truly awesome. And fast!!! My head is spinning, this is the fastest I’ve ever was able to find out anything. Now on to amazon and order the books.

Eeyore9990, I also mourn the loss of Garwood’s historical romances. Her contemporary stuff is good, but to me it pales in comparison. I would say that at least 10 out of my favorite 20 historical romances of all time are Julie Garwood books. I suppose that I can comfort myself by re-reading them!!

Good job, bitches! I immediately thought of Garwood when I heard funny pirates. *g* But I’m not good enough to think of specific books! And hey! My hubby read a Garwood too, when he first started dating me! These are good men.

I love the Garwood books! I stupidly gave them away several years ago when trying to make shelf space--I might just have to go buy them again to read. Thanks for reminding me of these fun and funny books.

Garwood has a new historical coming out at the end of December in Hardcover. Its related to her contemporaries (the Buchanan’s and MacKenna’s)and will include some of her characters from the Bride and the books connected to it. Its titled “Shadow Music.”

I miss Garwood’s historicals.  Everything she wrote prior to her American historicals and forward is in my treasured re-read pile.  She had a great way with light humor.

Julie was responsible for bringing me completely into the romance fold.  I was pulled in by her “For the Roses” series.  Eventually I had to branch out because it seemed like she was writing about the same heroine (they all had “violet” eyes) and the same hero (they were all annoying chauvanistic).  Now I feel like Garwood’s books are the grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup. You forget how good and comforting they are but a steady diet gets old after awhile (too much cheese). The Ransom, The Bride, and The Wedding will always hold a special place in my heart.

Julie Garwood was my first.... I was a freshman in high school and I LOL’d reading the Gift and fell in love with romance novels.

Historical Garwood...*sigh* They’re all on my keeper shelf.  I can’t wait to see her go back to her roots.
