For every post I make bitching about what went wrong with the aftermath of Katrina, I make a post about what people can do to help, or link to people who are by gum by golly doing things right.

Like Amy E., for example. She rules.

Buy her novella, Three Wishes. And show her some love.

Also, AAR is holding a series of auctions on behalf of Katrina victims. Go! Buy! Be good little consumers, because it’s a good cause.

Also: Help Larissa Ione out. She lost everything. And I mean everything. Auctions on her behalf began Thursday. Go forth and bid!

Updated to add: And Amy alerted us to another awesome auction. It’s for Inga Mahn, who lost everything except except her kids, her pet and her computer. Bid, bid, bid!

And don’t forget the animals. They oftentimes get fucked over worse than people in these disasters, so spare a thought (and a few dollars) for them, too. The Humane Society, the ASPCA, the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine and Noah’s Wish are just a few of the worthy organizations who would appreciate any money you can throw their way.

Yeah!  As they say “times of crisis brings out the best and worst in humans.”

Glad to see stories on the “best” too!

(Grah!  Comments section just ate my post!  Let’s try this again...)

You people are making me blush.  Thanks for the love, Candy.  I have a better idea than buying my novella, though.  (Although that’s a damn good idea… ahem.) My fellow Aphrodite author (and Chippewa author) Inga Mahn lost everything in the flooding of New Orleans.  She’s got her family, her pets, her car and her computer.  (That’s how you know she’s an author--the stories are our “other babies.")

I tried to post a link to the auction that’s going to help her, run by yours truly so I swear it’s not a scam to fleece the generous public, but the blogger software yelled at me.  So, if you go to eBay, search by seller and find everything being auctioned by AimHighReliefFund, you’ll find Inga’s auction.  Go forth, bid high, bid often.  There’s an awesome online mentoring course being offered by THE Valerie Parv (the Nora Roberts of Australia, a woman so very beloved in Oz that her face has graced a postage stamp!) that’s a $700 value, unbid on right now at $99.  Alas, eBay won’t let me bid on my own auction!  Someone get that thing.  Also tons of autographed books and a critique session from Kate Rothwell, another awesome Bitch.

Commercial over.  Much love to y’all.

DOUBLE GRAH!!!!!

Ebay just decided that these auctions violate their terms and conditions for charities.  Grrr, grrr, grrr.  Heavens forbid we try to do something nice for someone!  *headdesk*

Wait. What the fuck?

I heard AAR had the same problem too.

Maybe you could contact the people from Romaid or the people who organized the Marinanne Mancusi fire fund and ask them how they did it without eBay jumping all over their asses?

Does anyone know if there’s a fund of some kind set up for Larissa and her family?  To tell the truth, I’d rather just contribute some cash into a fund, rather than do the whole auction thing.  Not that I have anything against auctions.  It’s just my preference.

Anyone know?  Or, if no fund, is there an address where I can send money?

Thanks…

Well, hell, I guess it would have helped if I’d looked at the linked site.  I’ve read Larissa’s blog (which just killed me), but hadn’t actually looked at the auction website.  Holy Moly!  That’s awesome!  So much stuff, and so many people - it made me all weepy again.

I suppose I’ll just email the contact person and ask her where to send a check.

So...never mind.

I think I figured out the eBay thing.  I had to pull down all the auctions they didn’t kill, cancel all the bids, then redo all of them while removing any mention of actually GIVING the money to Inga.  How fucking stupid is that?

Well, apparently they’re happy now, though.  See, it’s okay to make money for yourself, but NOT okay to tell people you’re giving it to someone else who needs it.  Yeah, makes perfect sense.
