Alan Rickman’s voice … be still my heart.

  2. Zoe Archer says:

I think my husband will be a little upset if I lock myself in a closet and listen to this endlessly repeat, a possibility with a very high degree of likelihood.

  3. Kate Diamond says:

If loving Alan Rickman is wrong, I don’t want to be right!

  4. KristieJ says:

OMG – I don’t think I could listen to the entire reading of Richard reading Sylvester without turning into a puddle on the floor – not unlike what the wicked witch of the west does in The Wizard of Oz.  Mr. Armitage’s deep…… sexy…… accented…… voice would have the same effect on me as water does on the witch.  I have just a mini-clip of him reading The Lord of the North by Bernard Cornwall starts the meltdown.  And don’t get me started on him reading children’s bedtime stories

The way that man says squirrel!!!!!!!!!!!!  And of course every time he says bed time I get all squirmy inside.

  5. Bhetti says:

Post up a reminder on 1 July, please? There’s almost zero chance for remembering (personally, anyway).

  6. StarOpal says:

Wait, if I have Alan Rickman (…yes…) in one ear and Richard Armitage (…oh, yes) in the other, does it count as some sort of auditory three way? And is it considered kinky?

KristieJ> I have all those bedtime stories things saved in my Youtube favorites. Very ‘melt into a puddle of goo’ worthy.

Two of my favorite things in one?  Richard Armitage and Georgette Heyer?  It’s like having Christmas on Easter day, having chocolate in my peanut butter.

I’m going to mark my calendar right now!

  8. Melissandre says:

Alan Rickman reading Shakespeare?!  My bosoms are officially heaving.

  9. SandyLou says:

    God, I love Alan Rickman.

  10. Saam says:

Oh yes! I will be in line for one of those. Am watching Spooks series 7 at the moment (MI-5 in USA) & he’s verrrry sexy. DOn’t know which I like more, the voice or the bod…

  11. Courtney S. says:

Richard Armitage is so yummy. I can’t wait to get this for my Ipod. Then when I need a litttle RA fix at work, I’ll be set.

  12. Zoe Archer says:

Am watching Spooks series 7 at the moment (MI-5 in USA) & he’s verrrry sexy.

I’m in the US of A and would cut a bitch to see that.  I can haz on DVD?  I have a region-free DVD player….

  13. ev says:

EVERYTHING’S better with Alan Rickman in it!!

  14. Betsy says:

I downloaded that Alan Rickman reading off iTunes as soon as I read that earlier SBTB post.  *swoon*

  15. Heller says:

  16. silverflame says:

You can watch the first episode of Spooks season 7 on Ninjavideo:
    http://www.ninjavideo.net/cat/889
Someone told me they watched the whole season on there but they must have removed it by the time I got there!  Ugh!  Now I am suspended in Richard Armitage Lust-land until who knows when!

  17. Saam says:

@Zoe Archer: you can haz RA! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SPOOKS-SEASON-SERIES-7-DVD-COMPLETE-UK-RG-2_W0QQitemZ370189413165QQihZ024QQcategoryZ2288QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262
First episode there’s a lovely slow pan up his naked torso – I had to make it go muuuuuuch slower of course…*sigh*

  18. Cat Marsters says:

Ahh, I think I know what I’ll be listening to on the transatlantic flight to RWA Nationals this year.  Lovely Richard murmuring lovelily in my ear.  Mmm.  What I extra, extra love about his voice is that little hint of a northern accent he can’t quite hide.  Sexy crispness, comforting softness.  Mmm.  MMM.

And in Spooks he speaks Russian.  I never considered Russian to be a sexy language until then.

However, I may possibly be alone in being quite unable to stand Alan Rickman’s voice.  Too cakey.  Once saw him in Anthony & Cleopatra for the RSC: couldn’t hear a damn word he said.

  19. Cora says:

I adore the Ceebies bedtime stories. Top actors, including some incredibly hot men, reading bedtime stories for children. What’s not to love?

  20. Breemgrrl says:

Aside from the luscious links some of you have provided, I have, until now, never sampled the pleasures of Richard Armitage, but am already tingling at the little snippets I’ve seen so far. Now, my question is, what would be the best place to start on his TV work? The Robin Hood series, or elsewhere?

Thanks for any suggestions. And, by the way, I am new to this site, but not to romance reading. I just couldn’t resist checking it out after heaing Sarah and Candy on NPR last Saturday.

  21. StarOpal says:

    Breemgrrl>

    I’d recommend….

North & South is so very, very delicious!

Also Vicar of Dibley’s finale. You can find it all by it’s lonesome as The Vicar of Dibley: A Holy Wholly Happy Ending.

    Then Robin Hood.

  22. StarOpal says:

*gasp* that should be “its” not “it’s,” I’m so embarrassed!

Sorry to post again, but pet peeve.

  23. Zoe Archer says:

Thank you, thank you to the provided links to watch Ep. 1.  That slooooow pan up his tattooed torso was a religious experience.

Are the other episodes online to, or just that one?  I need more religion in my life.

  24. Barbara says:

    Ah, Rickman….

Of course, if you want any other extremely awesome British men reading sonnets, you can get the fundraiser album (for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in the UK) When Love Speaks.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_Love_Speaks

It’s got the Fiennes brothers, Diana Rigg, Kenneth Branagh, Jonathan Pryce, David Warner, Thelma Holt, Ioan Gruffudd, John Hurt, and lots more.

    *le sigh*

  25. KristieJ says:

Oh YES YES YES YES YES – a thousand times YES to North and South.  It’s A WONDERFUL series done by the BBC where he plays a mill owner in a northern industrial town and the love interest is the daughter of a vicar from the south of England.  And it should be in no way shape or form confused with the miniseries done a number of years ago about the War of the States – or Civil War.  The British North and South is simply the most captivating thing I’ve ever seen – ever!!  And thanks to the wonder that is YouTube, here is fine sample

I think it’s easy to find – I know a lot of people have got it through NetFlix – and then gone on to purchase a copy of their own!  And if you check Amazon, it has incredibly good ratings.  Now while I normally don’t put a lot of stock in their ratings, in this case they did get it totally right!!

And then there is his total loveliness in Robin Hood

  26. Saam says:

North & South aaah! I was first alerted to its existence by Katiebabs & KristieJ going on about it on Ramblings on Romance. Turns out it has shwon on Australian TV but it was just after I had my bub so I was in no condition to watch TV. Have since gotten my paws on the DVD & have watched it a few times…Definitely the best place to start your Richard Armitage romance.
We also had Robin Hood but I saw a few minutes of the 1st series & thought eh. Obviously didn’t catch a scene with Guy of Gisbourne. Am waiting for my copy to arrive in the post for the next installment of RA hotness. In the meantime there’s plenty of fanclips of him on youtube to keep me going.

  27. Cat Marsters says:

No, Robin Hood isn’t that great: in fact I wouldn’t have continued to watch if not for Richard Armitage.  In black leather.  With a sword.  Scowling.

    My bosoms, they are heaving.

  28. Breemgrrl says:

Thank you all heaps for the enthusiastic recommendations! Netflix has “North and South” on “instant watch,” I see, so I shall be going there shortly. And many of the reviewers there compare Richard Armitage’s role in this quite favorably to Colin Firth’s Mr. Darcy – well, we’ll have to see about that, because I did and still do swoon quite mightily for that one. But I do love a dark-haired, somewhat brooding, but basically good-hearted man. And, well, I did go ahead and watch that “Spooks” episode online last night in which we got to seeMr. A’s lovely, ripped abs, so guess I already am on my way. (Drooling aside, the episode was fascinatingly tense and heartbreaking.)

With all the good suggestions for viewing here and reading material in “Beyond Heaving Bosoms,” I might just have to take a week and be a hermit …
