Sunday morning in Melbourne, Australia, Candy and I will be on the air with Alan Brough on 774 ABC Melbourne. I think we’re on around 11:30 AM there as part of the arts/books program, whereas it’ll be 9:30 Saturday night here, and like, a week ago last Tuesday in Oregon or something. Working out the time zone differences nearly did me in. It looks like there may be ways to listen in online, if you’re not in the Melbourne area.
Seems Alan is way into the Bosoms, and wants to talk to us about romance novels. And since I’m a huge fan of Australia, I’m so excited, I can’t even tell you. Candy and I both are plotzing all over the place, especially since, according to her bio, Hilary Harper, who contacted us initially, tosses haiku into her traffic reports. That’s just supreme excellent right there.
Think I ought to tell Alan that Freebird thinks the lyrics to “Waltzing Matilda” go: “Washing the tuba, washing the tuba, you’ll go a-washing the tuba with me”? This makes more sense to him than anything having to do with Matilda. Come to think of it, why aren’t there more romance heroines named Matilda? Yo Australian romance writers, we need more Matilda heroines. Particularly if they have hobo-style handbag collections. Because that wouldn’t be obvious or anything.

Has anyone warned Australia? Shouldn’t there be some sort of warning issued that the Smart Bitches are invading their country? Just sayin’. Wouldn’t want an international incident, lol!
I will have to see if there is a way to listen to the broadcast, so thank for the link. (and why do they call it a ‘broad’cast? Does it have anything to do with broads, dames, and other old world terms?)

Very cool! Have to remember to try to listen…seeing as it almost one of my local stations.
I think when you learn that Matilda in the song means a swag (basically the bag/bundle with all their belongings) that they used to wander around the bush, it becomes less glamorous as a name for a heroine… Plus the whole song is kind of morbid – the main character steals a sheep, gets caught then jumps into the billabong and drowns to avoid going to jail (and people think we should have this as our national anthem!!!!?!!!!)
Hurrah for streaming audio! I hope I can get away from the family for a while on Saturday evening. I’m in Candy’s time zone, so I think that’s 6:30 p.m.

Somewhat o/t- I went to Hastings bookstore today intending to buy
BHB, if they had it, but when I got there I realized I had no idea
where it would be shelved. I checked the new books and romance
sections. No luck. Non-fictions are categorized into all sorts of
sections as you probably know, too many sections, too little time, so I didn’t bother. Clerks were too busy to ask.
I’ll probably end up ordering it online, but just for reference, where
would it be shelved?
Darn! It’s my city, my time zone, and I will be stuck at kids sport right when it is on!
btw, Sarah—You just reviewed a book (He Called Her Doc) with a heroine named Maude — which is the old nickname for Matilda. Maybe there’s not such a dearth of Matilda’s after all.

Yay! I’m not it Melbourne, but will listen online. Alan Brough is a blast – he apperas on a music quiz show called Spicks & Specks on ABC TV – it’s my favourite show. I think you guys will have lots of fun!

If you’re new to Alan Brough, he’s from New Zealand, which means his accent is far and above better than the Australian accent…and yes, I’m jealous 😉

Alan is so awesome. He’s hilarious on Spicks and Specks which is a music comedy show here. If you youtube Alan Brough- six foot four kiwi you will get the very funny Alan adoration song from spicks and specks. Not that I’m a stalker. So excited to listen to smart bitches in my city, on my local radio station. Too cool!

Spicks and Specks is AWESOME! One of my fav AU shows, hands down. Use the google, youtube, whatever you have to…but watch that show!! My fav ep- They stumped Lloyd Cole on one of his own songs!! A twisted version of, “Perfect Skin”. Its also always funny when they try to get Murray (the Wiggle, is a frequent guest) to be naughty. Good times, good times…
Alan Brough knows everything, EVERYTHING, about music. He’s a riot. Have a great time! I’ll have to work out how to listen to it in Sydney.

That was *so* much fun to listen to – especially when Alan couldn’t stop giggling! And I loved the recommendations of Australian romance authors – I wish I’d had a pen handy to write down the ones I didn’t know about. Another wonderful Australian writer who I can highly recommend is Anne Gracie – she has a delicious sense of humour and characterisation, her characters have historically-accurate opinions, and her stories are incredibly sweet.
Also, I loved your book, and got very funny looks on public transport for giggling like a maniac at some of your heroines, plot cliches, choose your own adventures, and pretty much everything. Thanks Sarah and Candy for your wonderful and hilarious work.
