Those of us bitching about the dearth of real men on covers can now rest secure in the knowledge that the Foremost Defender of Truthiness is taking matters into his own hands.

Thanks to assorted members of the Bitchery for sending us the link.

Edited to add: Also, thanks to Laura Vivanco, who in turn got the link from AAR, you can view the entire video clip here.

I just got the static version of the covers at that link. Someone at AAR posted a link to the video clip of the whole monologue/sketch and this is a direct link (if I can get the hyperlink to work ;-) ). It’s Colbert’s response to Harlequin’s recent call for ‘real’ models for their covers.

I was watching this “live” last night and almost wet my pants. FIRST I saw my friend’s TWO BOOKCOVERS on the screen, so I paused it to sprint upstairs and email her a notice! Then I finally watched the whole segment and just died! So fricken funny.

Wouldn’t you just die if you were randomly watching Colbert or Stewart and your book came up on screen? HA!

That’s AWESOME.

I love him as a pirate.

Oh, Stephen Colbert, how I love thee.

I would totally read “Arrgh You Lonesome Tonight?”, by the way…

Can I just say, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart are totally my idea of real men.

I would buy the book solely because they were on the cover....

ITA, Mel-O-Drama! They’re both smart as whips, funny, and human-being level attractive, not made out of plastic.

Also, Stephen Colbert’s infamous reaming of the President was so much hotter and braver than the exploits of most Romance heroes, imo!

I can totally endorse Jon’s performance in Playing by Heart.  They paired him up with Gillian Anderson, and they were SO sweet. Great ensemble pic.

Squee!!!!!!!

Okay, obviously the eyepatch is goofy, but am I the only one a little turned on by the cowboy hat if it were pulled a little lower?

I do like brainy guys.  Colbert never rocked my girlparts until the White House dinner and suddenly… wow.  Rawr, baby.  Brave and cute??

And watching Jon Stewart and Gillian Anderson make out in Playing by Heart was the fantasy I never knew I had.

I loved this movie!

Romancing Colbert. Great way to start the day. Thanks, bitches.

Hoovercraft parasailing accident?  That was the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while.  I think Colbert should write the romance novel, as well as gracing the cover.

Oh, thank you, Laura, for posting this link; I don’t know who got the worst end of that deal, Harlequin or Colbert’s intern!

The real treat for me, though, was the clip that followed, an interview with Clive James, who was working that old standard intellectualism = communist. Oh, it must be so sad for them now that the Cold War is over. Or is it?  Only a non-intellectualist could tell us, I guess.

Um, yeah.  When I saw that section air, I was thinking how it’s probably a little bit wrong that Colbert on a Romance cover is considerably hotter than anything I’ve seen that’s for real.

I was all HEY LOOK! Because they featured Jessica Trapp’s books in the background and she’s a pal. I was too busy screeching about that to pay attention to the rest of the segment.

Stephen (also Estaban or Tek Jensen.) So very silly. Woo. So extremely hot.

I have always maintained that sex appeal for me is mostly between the ears. Colbert and Stewart both make me laugh out loud regularly. Is anything sexier than that?

Hey did any of y’all happen to see the episode of the Daily Show where Jon Stewart put up a romance novel cover with George Bush’s face placed over the “hero’s”?  It was one of the most well-endowed man titty covers I’d seen in awhile, with the dude having long-ish locks that were blowing in an imaginary breeze.  He also gave it a title that made me laugh so hard I almost shot coffee out of my nose!!

Anyway, I can’t remember the title now and wanted to see if any of you loverly folks did.  I’d love to see it again!

Also, I’ve had more than one dream where Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have made a Joanna sandwich of hot squiggy love...but that’s another story.

Joanna ;-)
