I clearly must find these books. The plot also sounds kind of like Anne Maxwell’s Dancer series--Fire Dancer, Dancer’s Luck, and one other I can’t remember.
Word is hit91--I would hit Kirtn, the male lead.

Link for US Buyers: The Gladiator’s Honor (Harlequin Historical Series)
Updated 3pm EST 12/4/06 to add:
Amazon.ca has one left, and there seems to be some availability at eHarlequin’s online store. Also, Books-a-Million may have some copies as well.
The trouble with Mills & Boon and their US counterpart, Harlequin, is not the content or even the secret sheihk’s baby daddy plot lines. My problem? The SIZE. Size MATTERS. Why does size matter? Because when a Mills & Boon book you’re supposed to review falls behind your TBRv pile (not to be confused with the TBR pile) there’s no chance you’re going to spot it.The slim and trim and fashionably slender series? Never saw it hiding back there.
So, with apologies to the author who was nice enough to send me this copy an embarrassingly long time ago, herewith is my micro review for The Gladiator’s Honour: Book good. Book Very Good. Go Read Book Now.
And here’s the macro review:
looks yummy. i will have to get it from the library over xmas break...along with a gazillion others that i dont have time to read at school…
Sigh. At last. May our quest see fruition. Thanks for doing the review; I used it in my query letter as an example of how perfect Harlequin Historical would be to publish my MS, and now I can crib your copious notes if ever I’m quizzed. It’s in my TBR pile, but that means little these days. EVERYTHING is.
This sounds like just the Romulus for my Remus, but can we still get this book in stores? I thought Mills & Boons were only out for the single month of their release…

After Sarah’s great review, I just ordered t his on Amazon, but I had to use the American spelling of “honor” and it popped right up at 5.99 (under, I assume the Harlequin arm). And speaking of Harlequin, does anyone think their willingness to even TRY different is related to the fact that they are a Canadian company?
I just updated the entry with a link to the US Amazon - I was operating off of a UK copy and completely doofed on the linkage. My bad! Sorry!
But yes, it is available from Amz.com US.
Hey, Sarah, it says there are only 4 more in stock right now (at 5.50—geesh, I can’t even remember what I paid). It wasn’t that way last night when I bought it, so that’s pretty cool!
No way! Man, what would happen if we started a Smart Bitch Book Club? Would Oprah cry tears of jealousy at the Smart Bitch Buying Power?
I’m so tickled! How wickedly, awesomely cool!
As of 2:00 Monday, neither Amazon.com nor Barnes and Noble.com had copies.
Sad for us potential readers but great news for Michelle Styles.
I added some additional links to potential sites with copies for purchase. Let me know if anyone finds additional options online.
For anyone who has Booksfree (the book version of Netflix) I just added this one to my list and they have the availablity listed as “high”, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting it there.
I have already read this book, and while I found the heroine a little too wimpy for my taste, I thought the author handled the historical background very, very, very, very, very VERY well! How nice to read something different and so well-researched. I hope to see a lot more books with fresh settings like this one.
I contacted Michelle after you posted this review, Sarah—she admits on her blog that she gave up hope of seeing it reviewed here!—and she has since joined our blog for authors of historicals set in unusual locales/periods. Yay! Thanks for inadvertantly helping make our networking possible!
You SBs must be going soft or it’s a brilliant book. I know it’s a brilliant book but then I’m biased. :)
I don’t think I’m going soft - people keep sending me book to review that are good. I have a rep to protect, though. I should go read something I know will make me rage against the man titty or something. Pass me some Cassie, will you, Candy?
This just hit the top of my Christmas wish list, thanks to this review. Hope the fam gets the hint.
Ooh, I just bought this down at Fred Meyer based on your review. You SBs have re-sparked my interest (long thought lost in college) in romance.
I liked this book too, when I read it not too long ago. Right after I bought it. But I think I donated my copy to the library, or I’d offer it to someone who needs it desperately. Anyway, it is a goodie.
I’m so glad you gave this book a great rating. I love Michelle Style’s writing and her settings in Rome! Her heroines are always strong and intelligent characters Luckily our local library has all her books. Probably her books inspired me to watch the TV series Rome - on DVD. lol
