TheTBRPileGetsaSmackdown

Here at the Smart Bitchery, I’m suffering a wee bit of guilt. I’m a pretty fast reader, and faster now that I have a bus ride each morning and evening to use for my reading time. But alas, my free time? It has taken a huge nosedive, caused by major cuteness. Wanna see the cuteness?

Check it:

Yeah, that was totally an excuse to put a picture of Freebird up for much ooh-ing and aah-ing.

But since the birth of this here Bitchery, we’ve been sent many a review copy of many a book, some from publishers and some from the stash of free copies belonging to the fine authors themselves.

And I want to make clear that Candy and I, we are not the kind of assmonkey buttmunches who get all giddy over free books and then never deliver on the review part. We both think that the books we review are worthy of a dedicated critique, and it’s not like we want to dash off eBay-feedback reviews (e.g. Marrying the Tycoon’s Monkey Daughter’s Secret Baby was an A+++ BOOK - great! I laughed! I cried! I’m gonna read it again and again until I can recite it from memory at the next Carnival Cruise line passenger talent show!) You worked hard on writing the book, we work hard on reading it and giving it a thorough evaluation.

So! If you sent me a book and you’re wondering, “What the hell, woman?” feel free to email me. I’m going to update the sidebar to “Books to be Reviewed Really Freaking Soon” because updating “What I’m Reading Now” could turn into an every-other-day event since I am back on the bus now.

But, the reviews? The reading? It continues.

Ahh, Sarah, I feel your pain.  The babies, they are so cute, but they aren’t conducive to curling up with paperback for an entire afternoon.  I remember one day back in October when I seriously breastfed my son all day long just so I could read.

I hope--now that my ad time is over-- you feel the urge to grind my book beneath your stiletto heels.

How’d you know I was wearing heels today?! That’s scary!

Now that is one very cute baby!  I told my spouse recently that the cuteness is a defense mechanism for them - so you won’t put them in the next garage sale for keeping up all hours of the night and vomitting in your hair.

Oooooooh!  Aaaaaahhh! :-)

(Freebird really is cute!)

Yep, Freebird definitely ranks high in the “oooh-aaaah” factor.  Those eyes!  Did you know that we are born with grown-up-sized eye sockets, and that’s why babies’ eyes seem overly large (and cute)?

And standing in the “What the hell, woman?” line awaiting the review of my book.  I know, I *just* sent it in, but that’s why I’m standing in line!

Ooooh!  Ahhhh!  Major girly noises here...and I’m too damned frightened of you all to send you my books....’cause, you know, I ain’t that cute and cuddly anymore, and the books...well, they’re just paper and I’m SURE some of mine have hit the garage sale table…

Oooooh!  Ahhhhhh! at Freebird!

I don’t usually coo over children, but your little Freebird made my ovaries sputter a little bit. aww. what a cutie!

Also, why don’t I get free books? What’s a reviewer gotta do to get free books around here?

Awwwww, Freebird is so cute in that picture. He looks so puzzled and worried and adorable.

All hail the power of The Freebird!

And yeah, my TBR pile is out of CONTROL--mostly because I was determined to finish Musashi before moving on to other books. Now that Don’t Look Down has arrived, I’m once again abandoning it.

I owe five reviews for SBTB. FIVE. *bangs head* They are:

The Price of Temptation by MJ Pearson

Hot Spell (anthology)

Two Harlequin manga novels whose titles escape me for the moment (oh man, the reviews for those should be fun)

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

There. Now that I’ve typed the list out, maybe I’ll be shamed into finishing the reviews soon.

I keep playing around with the idea of sending y’all another one of my books, since I emerged relatively unscathed last time around… one has been getting either shiny, sparkly, OMG SQUEE LUV LUV reviews, or BLEURGH who told this assmonkey she could write??? reviews.  Wonder what your take on it would be.

Of course, even if you fall on the ‘assmonkey’ side of things, it could still be fun.  At least you’d really SAY assmonkey instead of dancing around it with phrases like “one-dimensional secondary characters” or something.  Hmm… the mental debate continues.  To send, or not to send?

And by the way, the Freebird?  SERIOUSLY CUTE!  Give him a snuggle from me!

Freebird is adorable!!

I wanted to suggest you review a book I absolutely hated - so I gather I should hold-off??

Sigh. It was really, really bad.

Major cuteness happening there!  ENJOY...before you know what happened, he will be a senior in high school and posing for that pic will seem like last week.

desertwillow & Amy E: bring it on! Feel free to email me if you don’t want to discuss publicly.

And thanks for the compliments on my manly men, dl! I agree, they’re both cute.

Freebird is totally adorable!  Cuddle him now - it’ll be “tomorrow” and he’ll be really tall, smell bad, and sweat a lot.  Ugh.

...BUT, I’m really really looking forward to your review of my Beauty and the Beast retelling…

Still, cuddle first.  Then review.
