Four Things

Thing the first: Diana Rowland interviewed me for Magic District. She wanted to examine the issues facing romance, science fiction, and fantasy novels – and I apparently wanted to use the word “element” about sixteen times too many. It’s like an elemental drinking game at this point. Thank you for the interview, Diana!

While I was traveling in scenic, windy, and unquestionably awesome Iowa, a segment I taped for Better.tv aired in a whole mess of places across the US. Host Audra Lowe interviewed me about the Bosoms, the power of romance in a recession, and what to do about those who put down the genre.

Hey! Lookee there—Beyond Heaving Bosoms is the featured book in the editorial spotlight in the Sony eBookstore – how cool!

And finally, I have to find where I hid my BEA pass, because next weekend it is all BEA, all the time. BEA, which actually stands for “Bring Extra Alcohol,” is going to be extra more gooder this year because not only are cool people like Kassia Krozser and @DonLinn going to be there, but NetGalley and Firebrand decided to host a “blogger signing” at their booth (#4077).

As Firebrand founder Fran Toolan said,

“Blogger Signings” is a bit tongue-in-cheek, as it is meant as a parody to the many “Author Signings” that are hosted either by BEA directly, or by individual publishers in their booths each year.

People that review books and blog about them are enjoying a significantly growing voice in influencing book buyers. And those that blog about the industry in general are having a strong influence on the rate of change our industry is undergoing. Many book bloggers enjoy a very strong following for their work, while others are not as well known.

The complete schedule is online, and I’ll be at the booth on Saturday 30 May at noon, alongside Jessica Kennedy from Book Reviews by Jess. I hope if you’re at BEA, you’ll stop by to say hello. I will be the one trying to refrain from openly stalking and squeeing at Kat Meyer and Charlotte Abbott.

I was going to email you guys yesterday that you were featured on Sony, but I forgot. Glad you guys saw it 😀

I will be roaming BEA on Saturday. So very excited for the Friday night blogger get together and for Saturday 😀

  3. Surprisingly enough, I’m currently reading the book on my Sony eReader.  I’m a little bummed that some of the graphic stuff is very tiny and hard to see, but I can always use my magnifying glass!

  4. Snowsparkle says:

Aw man, I was going to buy Beyond Heaving Bosoms at the Sony eBook store because I just got a Sony eReader 505, but then when I tried to purchase it it said US only. I’m Canadian.

I have to say I’m a bit overwhelmed trying to shop for my eReader so far. All the different sites, sometimes offering different formats, and I’m not really sure what works and what doesn’t.

  5. ghn says:

OK, so Bosoms is available in the Sony store. Will it also be available in other formats and in other e-bookstores, like Fictionwise? Since I don’t have a Sony reader (and is likely to buy one about two weeks after Hell freezes over) but _do_ have a Cybook, I am interested in something I can read on that. Or, in a pinch, my PC.

  6. Anna Patterson says:

I am reading your book for several reasons:
I think I need to understand how romance writing in general has changed over the years. I loved your explanations for this.
I also think you put things so bluntly that you curled the grey hair on my head, but I got the message.
I liked the layout so much I felt like I was having a good time throughout the entire book. Now I am back at work trying to put some of the many things I learned from your book into a readable book I am aspiring to write. I am bolder now. Thanks!

  7. Julia Quinn says:

Hey, I’ll be at BEA, too!

  8. Anna Patterson says:

Thank you for information my mother never taught me. It is about time I must say! I am rereading your Heaving Bosom book because I believe being a speed reader, I needed to go back and read it again. It is entertaining and I am working on a book. So I decided to write a love scene and then take a break, reread some of the dos and don’ts in your book concerning romance love scene writing and try again. My second attempt, thanks to a reread of your book, well, it just makes me feel so involved in the scene I am writing!

  9. Library Lady Terri says:

According to the BEA website you are supposed to print out your email confirmation and bring it with you.  They aren’t mailing out badges in advance.

Had to look it up as I’m putting everything together to go too and was doing the mad dash around the house looking for my badge like I do when I go to ALA.

  10. K. says:

Awe.some. I’m going to have to add this into my BEA schedule now and bring along my copy of Heaving Bosoms. Very cool.

  11. Anna Patterson says:

Thank you for the feedback I have received. But I am still not out of the woods yet. I wasn’t sure what BEA meant so I went to Google and looked it up. Imagine my surprise when I found out it really means the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) gov. Homepage. Was I surprised. That couldn’t be it. So I looked on down and there it was, a Book Expo—the largest book publishing event in North America in the publishing capital of the world New York City. wow! I really am impressed with your instant hit—Heaving Bosoms book!I wish I could be there getting your autograph, and I mean it. Stuck in a small town though.
