Update on Lois as she Kicks Cancer’s Ass

Back in December 2007, which is, like light years in blog time, I posted a “Good Shit vs. Shit To Avoid” for Lois, who was looking for escape-reads with supreme happy endings because she was about to undergo massive chemotherapy.

Not only did the Bitchery come up with a fabulous list, but several asked me to put them in contact with Lois directly so that they could send her books to help her through her painful convalesence.

Today I received an update from Lois, who is the second wildlife investigator to sight the Heaving Bosoms:

I have IT. In my hot little hands. And I’ve never been more excited (yes, I probably need a life). ITS bosoms might even be heaving, which is good since mine can’t due to the mastectomy. It’s nice to have something heaving around here right now.

I contacted you months ago about regency romances. I was in a somber (read pissed off and glum here) mood and I was hoping to calm myself down with a nice round of Regencies. Your readers—the smartest people on the planet—gave me loads of suggestions and I nearly took them all. And for months I’ve thought to write to let them know I’m still hanging in there, because at least one wanted me to tell her how I was doing.I’ve thought to write you, but wasn’t feeling up to par. Since I’m back in chemo the odds of me feeling great day to day are just a guess.

But today I’m feeling good so I thought I’d stop by and tell you I have your book and to thank everyone again for contributing to the Regency list. Thank you ladies.

Thank you for the update Lois. Our bosoms are heaving for you. Please continue to kick cancer’s ass.

  1. Congrats to Lois and I send you healing thoughts for your recovery.

I just received a message from Amazon telling me they were shipping out a copy of HEAVING BOSOMS to the winner at my blog. It’s going all the way to Finland and leaving the US today! Travel well, little book!

Best wishes to Lois on her convalescence.

My copy of Heaving Bosoms arrived on Saturday.  Woo hoo! If I can make myself stop re-reading Magic Strikes, I’ll get to it next 🙂

  3. Lois says:

Thanks for the best wishes. And yeah, JMC I had the same trouble with Magic Strikes. Finally my daughter ripped it out of my hands and took it home with her.  I was caught in the great read loop. That doesn’t happen as often as I’d like.

  4. Lisa Hendrix says:

I love a good re-readable book.  They are so rare.

Great heaps of healing wishes to you, Lois. You know, you can still heave your bosoms even if the fatty bits are gone…Practice. It’s possible to feel sexy again.

Ooh, I got a captcha that’s a square “seven49”—should be some kind of a prize for that.  //g//

  5. Lois says:

Speaking of heaving my bosoms, Lisa, I have these things I put on—hate to call them falsies. Anyway, I call them TA-DAAs, because the first time I wore them, I heaved them at my husband and said, TA-DAAA. And he said,” What? Looked me up and down And asked, “What the hell are you talking about?” I had to heave my chest again for him to actually catch on. Smart guy

  6. Estara says:

Being sick is a pain in the ass, but you seem to be an ass-kicking woman, Lois, so more power to you!!

I hope the recommendations continue to give you more heaving from laughter ^^ and that you never run out of enjoyable books.

  7. Carrie Sessarego says:

Rock on Lois, and may your bosoms heave forever – even if only metaphorically!

  8. Patty H. says:

Lois, sexy isn’t about the funbags or lack of, it’s about attitude and it sounds like you have that in spades!  Kick that cancer to the curb!
    Blessings to you.

Lois- please understand as I say this that I say it with all sincereity (besides the fact that I truly wish you well) but I have a warped sense of humor and the more something is tragic or sad, basically the worse my sense of humor gets. I believe in all sincerety that humor will conquer anything- I am a big supporter of Gilda’s Club for that very reason. So in that vein-
If you wish to have heaving bosoms again, please let me know. I will be more than happy to donate some of mine. At this point I do believe I can almost heave them over my shoulders. Gravity is winning this battle.
Please keep us posted on your recovery. And that is what I believe it is. As long as you keep fighting, then you are winning the battle. Keep reading and thinking good things and happy dreams.

  10. Lisa Hendrix says:

Ta-daas, ta-tas, funbags, whatever you call them, I love that you’re heaving them with such obvious joy. Rock on!

  11. Zoe Archer says:

Lois, you ass-kicking dame, please email me with your address and I’ll send you signed copies of my books.  I guarantee they’ll make you less nauseated than your chemo!

  12. Zoe Archer says:

    I’m so lame.  I didn’t include my email address:  zoe @ zoearcherbooks.com.

  13. Tam says:

    Go Lois!

  14. Lois says:

First, Ev You sound like my kind of gal. I too have a warped sense of humor. I kept hearing the kids song, Do your ears hang low, can you throw them over you shoulder like a continental solder, as I read your comment. Thanks for the laugh. I live for them.

And second, thanks for the offer of books, Zoe, I’ll email you.

    Lois

  15. Amy says:

I certainly hope Lois is doing well.  A breast cancer survivor myself, I know how important it is to have something good to read during chemo treatments.  Mercedes Lackey, Nora Roberts, and yes, even Twilight, got me through mine.

Do your ears hang low, can you throw them over you shoulder like a continental solder,

It was going through my head as I typed the comment! ROTFLMAO!!

  17. I don’t get out in blog world much but the I heard about Heaving Bosoms and decided to check it out.  Then I saw the thing about Lois.  No, I don’t write books fast enough for her (or me, for that matter—it’s very aggravating).  Would it help if I send her an ARC of my latest?  Can someone give me her address?
