I’ve got some emails wondering what the heck all this picking and polling and point scoring is about. Here’s the explanation.
There are 64 books that are competing against each other for the ONE BOOK TO RULE THEM ALL. 300+ people filled out a bracket identifying which book that they thought would win each round.
The next step is for the books to compete. We held polls today (and will tomorrow) asking you to vote for which book was “best”. If you hadn’t read a book and thus didn’t have a judgment about that, it was best to vote for the book you picked to go forward.
As the polls closed, we have updated the results. You can see your results by clicking here. This is a listing of all the players. Find your name and click on it. It will show you your picks. The blue titles are titles that are still competing. The red strike throughs are picks that you made that lost. For each book you picked right, you are awarded 1 point. At the end of today, the most points any one ballot can have is 16.

I did really good! I expect to fall far tomorrow as I don’t read much in those categories, so picked as I bet the horses. On hearsay or because the name appealed to me.
Where can I check my brackets?
You’re looking at it all wrong. MORE is better! Bigger is better! 330 is, like, 71% better than 192.
You all can’t be doing to bad. You didn’t mispell you own name on your entry as I did.
Okay, I can’t complain about being tied for 304th place (WTF!) with both Jane and SB Sarah, but I am confused (and I’m one of the people who understood how this works, based on years of March Madness). How did I manage to miss the voting on the historicals and the NWREs?

I get it now; I just feel stoopid. I didn’t realize that the polls on Dear Author were for different books than the ones here on SB<3TB. D’oh!

I’m still slightly confused, but I think that’s partly because most of the voting happened while I was asleep. (Damn time zones!)
I sorta halfway figured out the bracket deal as I went along. That’s the fun (for me). Having no clue what I’m doing.

Today, I fear I crash. As I said on SB, I don’t read much in today’s categories so picked on buzz or because the names of the books appealed. Just like I pick the horses.
I have no idea what GC’s talking about in #15--but fine with me. Whatever. As long as we do this all again next year!
I’m just thrilled I did as good as I did- concidering I’ve only read 2 of the books that were up.

Speaking as the daughter of a bookie, if you don’t understand all the fine points just go with your gut. Root for your books. (Please don’t let me be the only trash talker, as I do it badly.) Besides, there’s not even money riding on these “games” so it’s just fun. It kinda reminds me of the big Buffy pools I’d get into back in the day.
FYI for those printing out your brackets at work - I was dinged just now for
printing from an inappropriate address
because the SB website title showed up as the source of the page.

What I want to know, is there a place where I can look at the official brackets and see the books advancing?
I was way confused before this ever started, so I never entered, but if I can figure it out this year--next year for sure.
Still, it would be cool to be able to see an overall bracket-thingie…
Wow--and I thought my NCAA tourney brackets were bad! (I’m still reeling from my KY Wildcats going out in the FIRST ROUND and I’m refusing to watch the rest of the tourny.) And then, here, I’m 305th! I suck. *sigh*
