Go Ahead, Win Some Wanderlust

WanderlustAnn Aguirre has offered 25 ARCs of her new book Wanderlust for the readers of this here blog. Yay!

Want one? Yes? Hook us up with the name of her next book. All the Jax books have compound word titles: Grimspace, Wanderlust, Doubleblind and Killbox. So, what’s the 5th book? Give us an idea, serious or silly.

Drop a comment with your choice of a compound word title, and we’ll pick 25 winners from among the best.

But there is one condition – as Ann is a master of the viral market (in a good way, not in an ineffective antibiotic kind of way) she asks that if you win a copy, you review it, either on your site, or by emailing me your review. So enter as many times as you like, and “goodluck.”

ETA: Ann asked that I post a heads up for anyone in the NYC area: want to meet Ann personally and beg for a review copy of her book? July 22nd is your chance.

  1. Kimberly B. says:

Oooh, I’m just excited that there’s going to be a book 5!  My (first?) suggestion is Thunderstruck.  Thanks!

  2. Ann Aguirre says:

At this point, book five is purely theoretical.  I just thought it would be fun to do some preliminary title work (and can I just say, Thunderstruck is GREAT!)

  3. Ciar Cullen says:

    Happyplace? Turkeytrot? Thunderdome?
    Um, okay, maybe not.
    Firedawn. Nightstar.

Damn, I’m terrible at this, and would love to review the book. Rats and mice.

  4. stp says:

    Annrocks

    Aguirrefire

  5. Pamk says:

    What about
    awestruck
    overboard
    lightningstrike
    highlight

  6. I’ve always thought “Dawnstrider” would be an awesome name for a book. Or maybe a horse. I’d make a crack about the similarities between horses and books but I haven’t had any coffee yet.

  7. Angela James says:

    Dreamtheater

I feel like I should have a list, but that’s all I can think of!

  8. Pamk says:

    supersonic
    daybreak
    moonstream
    moonstruck
    slipstream

  9. Gillian says:

Hey, I read Grimspace!  It was good!  I will admit to having been seduced by the delightful cover ;).

    Lifelines?

Knockout?  (handily also a genetics term!)

Whilst I’m on the biology – have it be that one book where all the characters behave like idiots and call it Antisense!

  10. LeaF says:

    Magneticpull
    Laserfire
    Sunspiral

I think I suck at this too, but its fun!!!

  11. Lovecow2000 says:

    What about:

    freefall
    starburst
    deadlock
    blackhole

  12. Fionn J says:

EEK! Can’t possibly miss out on a chance to maybe win a ARC of one of Ann’s books!

PS/ The covers are hawt and rocxors my socxors.

    DARKLIGHT
    BLOODCHAIN

🙁 My titles are so generic, blargh!

  13. saltypepper says:

    Beatdown
    Longjump
    Tripwire
    Slapdash

My favorite compound words, sassypants and smartmouth, are probably not going to work, which is a shame.

  14. Stephanie says:

    Happyplace?

    Chickenheart?

(Maybe I’ll think of some serious ones later.)

  15. Leslie H says:

    Go Ann Go!

    Run-through
    fearless
    overcast

  16. Suze says:

It’s really hard, when you don’t know the world (and may I mention yet again how frustratingly small the selection in my ONE local bookstore is?).

    Deathstrike
    Firestorm
    Clusterfuck (okay, maybe Clusterbomb)
    Hellfire
    Sunspot
    Sunstroke (it’s been a little hot lately…)

  17. Michele Lee says:

How about something good happens to Jax and March for a change? I pick “Windfall” 😀

  18. Janicu says:

I liked Slipstream that someone suggested up there!
    My suggestions:
    Tripswitch
    Wildcard
    Aftermath
    Counterpoint
    Crosscut
    Jackknife
    Slingshot
    Spellbound
    Stalemate

  19. elianara says:

    Windblown
    Startouched
    Duskfighter

  20. Ann Aguirre says:

These are some seriously awesome ideas.

If you win this book, your enjoyment will be enriched if you read Grimspace first (if you haven’t already). Wanderlust is book two in the series.

  21. Sarai says:

So I suck at this but would love a copy how about:
wonderspace? HUH HUH I mean combine the two and poof whole new title. No?
Oh well I really do suck at this but would review it if I win!

  22. Jolene says:

ooh how cool… let me thing..
    dreamweaver
    stargazer
    starfighter

  23. Anna Marie says:

    Timeshift
    Hyperdrive
    Longknife
    Controllwake
    Deadbeat
    Flatwave

  24. loonigrrl says:

    How about Flashpoint?

I’m going to try to think of more later. . .

  25. Malin says:

    Travelweary
    Frozentime
    Spacedust
    Spacedawn
    Stardusk
    Firedusk

mind68: I wish my mind could come up with 68 options

  26. Fallout
    Wonderwall
    Timezone

  27. LeaF says:

    Tidalwave
    Laserquest

  28. natasha says:

    Germinate
    Revolution
    SafeHouse

  29. Malin says:

    Mindtravel
    Jax-in-a-box
    Spacestruck
    Groundlocked
    Homebound

Damn! I ordered Grimspace (b/c of SBSarah’s summer reads suggestions) but by my count it won’t arrive before tomorrow at the earliest. This would be so much easier if I knew what I was dealing with!

-But then again, maybe not! Having not read the book yet I am not embarrassed to throw out whatever suggestion comes to mind. I might be more intimidated if I had a frame of places/characters to deal with. Or NOT!? 😛

  30. My suggestions:
    Zerospace
    Morninglight
    Nightfire
    Deathstrike
    Killswitch
    Silverlight
    Nightside

  31. Melissandre says:

I haven’t read the first book, but this series sounds interesting.  Here are a few shots in the dark:

    Dreamtime
    Bloodmoon
    Flatline
    Endgame
    Checkmate
    Stormbreaker
    Warmonger

This is tough to do without knowing anything about the plot!

  32. Lyvvie says:

Slipstream, slipshod, slipknot…Don’t know why I’m stuck in slips.
Gridlock, Groundfog, Dreadknot, Starstruck, Srtuckdumb…ok that needs a hyphen.

  33. Lyvvie says:

    Wait – Dumbstruck doesn’t need a hyphen.

  34. B says:

Ooo, I’ve been waiting for this one! Hmm…I wasn’t expecting to have to do this though. Let me think…

    Firebrand
    Lostheart
    Blackhole
    Failsafe
    Freebird
    Breakdown
    Codebreaker

    My fiance sez:
    Darkmatter
    Override
Thunderrun (” It’s a military tactic, a rapid reconnaissance in force, quick in, quick out.” Don’t look at me, that’s what he said)

    (He liked the book too)

  35. Yvette Davis says:

Okay, I’ve never read an of Ann’s books, but they do look like something I’d enjoy. Here in Wenatchee, WA (otherwise known as the armpit of the state) local author Kay Kenyon writes stories that look similar to these. I’ll have to pick up Ann’s new book this week!

I just finished another space age thriller, “Accidental Goddess” by Linnea Sinclair (the one with the unfortunate cover). I’m a little behind on my reading…..

So for title ideas that are compound words all that comes to mind is stuff that I think has already been used:

Bodyheat, Badlands, Crapshoot, Doublespeak, Timeslide, Etc. (sigh!)

How about something that ends in -touch, -trick or -trap. Mindtrap? Or how about an obsolete word (yes the language does have some) like Roun which means secret. Rounwave? Or something related to trickster like Gull, which I’ve never heard used. Or there’s gyllen, which means golden. So does Jake Gyllenhall mean he’s a golden room? Hmm… Gyllenmist?

I know, not much to go on. Give me about two weeks playing around with Wiktionary though, and I’ll re-write the complete works of Shakespeare with utter nonsense!

  36. Popin says:

    Watertickler
    EarthWindFire
    ComplicatedRipple
    SmoothChaos
    FlashCard
    FlashLight
    WhiteLight
    AbosluteDarkness
    MotherBoard

    Thanks

    ~ Popin

  37. Christine says:

    Heavenstruck
    Starstruck
    Stellarmoves
    Darkstar
    Deepjunket
    Spacejunket

  38. Hmmmm. . .

    CHEAPDEATH
    MEMORYTAKER
    OLDSCHOOL
    SHORTJUMP
THUNDERBALL (What does that mean anyway, Mr. Bond? Sounds naughty)

    And I’m out.

  39. SonomaLass says:

Yvette, I recently read my first Kay Kenyon, and the library just called to say the next one is waiting for me.  Yippee!

I am also a big Ann Aguirre fan, but I totally suck at titles.  So my suggestions are NOT to be taken seriously, but I would love to win an ARC of the new books.

How about Stonemaiden?  Oh, no, already done.  Then I suggest Smartbitch.
