HappySmartBitchNewYear!

I’m taking the day off away from Ye Olde Laptop of Wonderment, but here are some things to look forward to here at the Pink Palace of Man-Titty:

2009 brings: The Smart Bitch Book and hella piles of promotion and giveaways. Seriously, could there be a better publishing market than right this minute? I mean sheesh! This is going to be cake!

And by “cake” I mean, next up, Candy and I will be baking a 15’ tall cake and jumping out of the middle naked wearing clown wigs and She-Ra breastplates. We’ll let you know when it’s scheduled and whether we need more eggs and sugar.

2009 will also bring: The Return of the Turtle! DocTurtle, specifically, who is so enchanted by the Power of the Bitchery and the allure of the romance that he’s asked to keep reading and reviewing as he learns the ins and outs of the genre. Next up: a book mentioned often as a title best suited for Sir Turtle. I’ll also be interviewing him so you can become better acquainted with his mathematical awesomeness.

And as always we’ll have snark and sparking wit, reviews and recommendations, videos and advice (or assvice, depending on whether you agree with me), and general merriment.

We at Smart Bitch HQ wish you and yours a very happy New Year. To romance!

Last call for Videomo entries! I’m still going through my email - but all entries must be posted to YouTube AND I must be alerted to their presence by midnight EST tonight TOMORROW. Jan 1.

Jesus. I haven’t even started drinking yet. Sorry y’all.

Happy new year and happy video editing!

DrinkingGameTime!

Want to get drunk really fast this evening? Here: read this article about male Mills & Boon romance author Gill Sanderson. Every time the reporter makes a snide or unnecessary dig about romance: drink!

You’ll be blotto by the midpoint. I’m counting at least 10. I’m enormously impressed with Mr. Sanderson’s forbearance with this article, but I throw a flag and issue a 15 yard penalty for reporter Peter Jackson. Unnecessary roughness, loss of down.

[Thank you to the many, many readers who forwarded me the link.]

Book CoverWhat a perfect way to end the year: DocTurtle finishes another review.

Part 5: Chapters 20 through 26

All things must come to an end, and so it is with Heyer’s tale of Waterloo.  After several truly engaging chapters, we come down from the mountaintop and finish out with a series of chapters focusing on the battle itself.  Eighty-eight straight pages of blow-by-blow on the battlefield!  Ouch.  I wouldn’t mind a few highlights, but I’ll be damned if Heyer doesn’t tell us of every last little manoeuvre either side makes.  I’ll go light on the details below.

Ready?

Here we go…

MissedOpportunity

imageAuthor Leslie Kelly wrote me with a bummer of a story:

I just found out (too little too late!) that on Christmas night, Sirius XM radio had a 4 hour read-aloud of a Christmas story I did for eHarlequin last year! (This on top of finding out that the thing was offered as a free audio book from audible.com for the past month!)

Anyway, I had no idea, would have absolutely loved to listen, and was just wondering if anybody out there in romance land actually heard any of it. Is there any teeny-tiny way you could ask on SBTB?

I only found out because somebody wrote to tell me about the Audible offer, so I googled the story, and this popped up. Major bummer, I had about 20 members of my family here on Christmas night...what an absolute blast to turn on the radio and hear one of “Leslie’s little stories” being read out loud.

So - did anyone happen to tune in to their Sirius radio and hear her story? How was it? And DUDE how much of a bummer is that!
