I enjoyed this book. I read it cover-to-cover in almost one sitting, but as I sit here to write this review, I’m left with distinctly meh feelings about it. Be Mine Forever by Kennedy Ryan is a KDD at $1.99 today only! This is book 3 in the Bennet series, and it has a 4+ star average on Goodreads, and 3.72 on StoryGraph. Ryan’s books are superb, with strong emotions and complex characters. Readers state that the emotional payoff for this story was incredible, though some grew weary of the angst on the way. This book jumped out at me because it’s an examination of how Mary, Queen of Scots used textiles, embroidery, and color to communicate and convey power. Warrior Girl Unearthed is thrilling, upsetting, and edifying. There are some structural problems with this book, it still delivered the squee factor, in that I was totally absorbed and emotionally invested in this story. This is a stand-alone novel set in the same community as in the book The Firekeeper’s Daughter, another excellent read. Both books tackle difficult issues that face indigenous young women in America with empathy, perception, tenderness, and grit.
